Gendered Paths To Cancer Knowledge and Screening Behavior among Black Adults
Efforts are needed to promote cancer knowledge and the uptake of cancer screening behaviors among Black Americans. Such efforts must be customized for the unique differences in facilitators/barriers among Black men and women. The present study leverages the potential of the UF Health Cancer Institute Community-Partnered Cancer Disparities Research Collaborative (CDRC) to identify the psychosocial and structural factors associated with cancer know…
A Community-Partnered Cancer Disparities Research Collaborative Model for Engaging Members of Low-Income Black Communities in Cancer Research
Black adults experience the highest incidence and/or mortality rates for many commonly diagnosed cancers; yet they are underrepresented in cancer basic, applied, and translational research. This underrepresentation is greatest among Black adults living in low-income communities. There are many barriers to these individuals participating in cancer research, including limited effective research engagement strategies. This paper describes the Univer…
Growth Velocity and the Pubertal Growth Spurt Across Skeletal Maturity Stages in Class II Malocclusion
Background/Objectives : This retrospective longitudinal study analyzed height growth velocity (GV) across skeletal maturity indicator (SMI) intervals in Korean adolescents with skeletal Class II malocclusion to identify the timing and duration of peak height velocity (PHV) and to define a PHV window relevant to growth-modification treatment. Methods : Sixty patients (30 males, 30 females) were followed for at least six years with serial hand-wris…

Analysis of urban visitor walkability based on mobile data
The walkability of destinations plays a decisive role in obtaining a sense of place for urban visitors. For an improved walkability-based visit experience, the city structure can be analyzed by dividing it into small units, starting with the destination. However, existing studies focus on the walkability of residents by administrative district and use limited contextual information and structural analysis tools. Therefore, this study aims to stru…

Bioelectric Effect of a Microcurrent Toothbrush on Plaque Removal
This study evaluated the effectiveness of a microcurrent toothbrush (approved by the US Food and Drug Administration [FDA]), which employs a superimposed alternating and direct electric current, named as a Proxywave ® technology, similar to the intensity of the biocurrent, in plaque removal and reducing gingivitis by biofilm removal through the bioelectric effect. This study enrolled 40 volunteers with gingivitis. Dental observations were made ev…
Quality of Life and Health in Patients with Chronic Periodontitis
This study was an in-depth examination of the health-related QOL of periodontal patients through a qualitative research methodology. We expect that this study will expand research on health-related QOL due to periodontal disease and revitalize the dental health system and practices
Image-Based Tactile Emojis
To enhance missing nonverbal cues in computer-mediated communication using text, those who can see often use emojis or emoticons. Although emojis for the sighted have transformed throughout the years to animated forms and added sound effects, emojis for visually impaired people remain underdeveloped. This study tested how tactile emojis based on visual imagery combined with the Braille system can enhance clarity in the computer-mediated communica…
