Open Access•Héctor Pérez Brignoli, Yolanda Baires Martinez•ARTICLE•Journal of Latin American Studies•1983•Cited by: 3•References: 1

Prosperity and increasing inequality may well be the most suitable terms to describe at first glance the evolution of the Central American economies from the post-war period until the beginning of the eighties. Prosperity based on a very favourable external economic situation was characteristic of the fifties, with promotion of technological modernization and some diversification in the export sector. Sustained economic growth continued during th…

  • The Economic Cycle in Latin American Agricultural Export Economies (1880–1930): A Hypothesis for Investigation

    Open Access•Héctor Pérez Brignoli•ARTICLE•Latin American Research Review•1980

Most economic historians are probably familiar with Ernest Labrousse's model of the “Crisis of the Old Regime,” although it remains largely unknown to economists, sociologists, and other specialists in the social sciences. Yet Pierre Vilar feels that it is one of Labrousse's most important contributions to the “development of a science of history,” and considers that as an “instrument of analysis,” it can shed light not only on the “old style” cr…
