This chapter examines the impact of General Ulysses S. Grant's General Order No. 11 on the Jews of Paducah, Kentucky. Unlike many other places where Jews lived or worked, Grant's expulsion order was zealously enforced in Paducah. As a result, the Jews in Paducah became the target for all the hatred and mistrust that the Civil War had spawned and unleashed in the city.
