  • Changing Perceptions of Nature

Ian Convery, Peter Davis et al.•BOOK•Changing Perceptions of Nature•2016

  • An Expression of Multiple Values

    Open Access•Darrell Smith, Ian Convery et al.•ARTICLE•Rural Landscapes Society…•2016•Cited by: 2•References: 52

To aid political and institutional decision making in the sustainable use of natural resources the value of ecological, socio-cultural and economic assets has increasingly been communicated in terms of monetary units. Despite reliance upon natural resources, the impact of human activities has now reached a stage where cumulative losses are forcing society to re-appraise the evaluation process and how to better incorporate these values in to the d…

  • Danger, danger! Evaluating the accessibility of Web-based emergency alert sign-ups in the northeastern United States

  • Assessing Grey Squirrel Dispersal Patterns within the Landscape Using Sequence Variation

    Claire D Stevenson, Andrew Ramsey et al.•ARTICLE•Landscape Research•2013•References: 16

The grey squirrel Sciurus carolinensis is thought to have contributed to the decline of red squirrel S. vulgaris populations in the UK through resource competition and disease spread. This study used mtDNA sequencing to assess patterns of grey squirrel dispersal in the UK. Patterns of genetic variation within the dloop sequence were characterised for seven grey squirrel populations. Infiltration directions and potential barriers to dispersal are …

  • Changing Place

    Open Access•Ellie Lindsay, Ian Convery et al.•ARTICLE•HUMAN GEOGRAPHIES – Journal of…•2012•References: 13

The conservation of tropical ecosystems is complex and contested, not least in terms of cultural and political perspectives between developed and developing nations (Bawa & Seidler, 1998; Colchester, 2000; Brosius & Hitchner, 2010). In Sabah, on the island of Borneo, Malaysia much of the forest has recently been converted to oil palm plantations. The plantations cover vast areas and leave relatively little space for native flora and fauna. Whilst…

  • Making Sense of Place

Ian Convery, Gerard Corsane et al.•BOOK•Making Sense of Place•2012

  • Three-Dimensional Computed Tomography X-Radiographic Investigation of a 17th-Century Watch from the Wreck of the Swan , off Duart Point, Mull, Scotland

Open Access•Lore G Troalen, Lore Troalen et al.•ARTICLE•The International Journal of…•2009•Cited by: 2

The objects recovered from the Swan have already been the subject of a number of publications. The aim of this article is to provide an in-depth study of the pocket-watch, using Three Dimensional Computed Tomography (3D-CT) X-ray scanning. The structural information that survived exceeded expectations and made a virtual reconstruction of the mechanism possible. The very high resolution provided by the scan enabled the engraving of the maker's nam…

  • Introduction

William Anderson, John Whitsett et al.•ARTICLE•Publication of the American…•1978

This study of the place names of Sumter County, Alabama, which is based upon my master's thesis,1 attempts to examine the histori cal, geographical, social, and linguistic aspects of the names. As Robert L. Ramsay, one of the pioneers in the field of place-name study in the United States, has stated: A man's name tells us his family and his ancestry, usually also his nationality and racial background, often his physical and mental inheritance, an…
