  • An Almost Empty Scoping Review

Victoria Ledford, Hilda Patricia Garcia Cosavalente et al.•ARTICLE•Health Communication•2025

Research has yet to offer strong recommendations for effective tobacco prevention and cessation messaging that can reduce tobacco-related health disparities among Black and/or Latine LGBTQ+ youth and young adults. As a result of predatory marketing strategies and community stressors, among other factors, LGBTQ+ youth and young adults use tobacco products at higher rates than their non-LGBTQ+ peers. These disparities are uniquely complex among Bla…

Open Access•Carter Carter, Rory Crath et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of Applied…•2024

This article reviews the results of a qualitative study of Black, indigenous, and people of color (BIPOC)'s experiences of discrimination in psychoanalytic professional organizations (PPOs) in the USA. The authors used thematic analysis to analyze the transcripts of semi‐structured interviews with n = 10 self‐identified BIPOC with prior experience in PPOs, including psychoanalytically‐oriented graduate programs, psychoanalytic institutes and othe…

  • Playing with History

    Carter Carter•ARTICLE•Black Camera•2015

The George Bernard Shaw quotation in the epigraph is both a charge and a warning. Truth is a bitter pill best taken with syrup. Failure to comply could result in the truth-teller’s figurative death. In the case of the black filmmaker, that death looks like empty theater seats. It is a film with no audience, no home. The Shaw quote opens Kevin Willmott’s 2004 film C.S.A.: The Confederate States of America. The film is a mockumentary about what the…

  • Does “Race” Have a Future or Should the Future Have “Races”? Reconstruction or Eliminativism in a Pragmatist Philosophy of Race

    Carter Carter•ARTICLE•Transactions of the Charles S…•2014•Cited by: 1•References: 4

Phillip Kitcher, author of Preludes to Pragmatism, argues in chapter six, “Does ‘Race’ Have a Future” that developments in evolutionary biology may support a separation of our species into subcategories that could be regarded as races. This article begins with a presentation of Kitcher’s account of race as biologically real, and socially constructed. From there it moves on to a consideration of racial eliminativism. An important aspect of the vie…

  • The Co-Operative Temper

    Carter Carter•ARTICLE•Mnemosyne•2005•References: 5

This article identifies and defines a recurrent figure in Sophoclean tragedy, which I call the co-operator, distinct from the more familiar hero and adviser figures. This figure is distinguished primarily by his role (sic: the figure is typically male), which is to be someone on whom the hero must depend. He acts without obligation and frequently against expectation. This behaviour can therefore only be explained in terms of the character of the …

  • A missing link between law and grammar, The Intisār of Ibn Wallād

    Carter Carter•ARTICLE•Arabica•2001
