  • ‘It's not really their problem’

Open Access•Fiona Henderson, Bridget Bennett et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of Disaster…•2025

Flooding already directly impacts almost a quarter of the world’s population, exacerbating existing climate injustices. However, flood risk management and governance are complex in societies already rife with inequalities and financially-pressured institutions. Immediate action is therefore required across policy, institutions, and practice to prepare for and adapt to increasing flood risks. This study explores the implementation of recent innova…

  • Navigating the ‘meaningless’ of social innovation

    Open Access•Fiona Henderson, Simon Teasdale•ARTICLE•Public Management Review•2024

Social innovation is an umbrella concept that allows space for a diverse range of perspectives to co-exist. In this paper, we explore how practitioners negotiate this complexity. Conducting 19 interviews with stakeholders involved in social enterprise and social care in Scotland, we show that almost anything can be conceived of as a social innovation as defined by the European Union. The EU definition can be a useful tool for organizations to dem…

  • Penser la guerre contre le machiavélisme

    Open Access•Fiona Henderson•ARTICLE•Rivista Italiana di Filosofia…•2024

  • Soil surface flux measurements are a reliable means for assessing fugitive gas migration across soils and seasons

Open Access•Mark Argento, Fiona Henderson et al.•ARTICLE•Elementa Science of the…•2022

As oil and gas wells age and the number of wells drilled increases to meet demand, we may see more instances of fugitive soil gas migration (GM) and associated methane (CH4) emissions. Due to the immense spatiotemporal variability of soils and uncertainty in measurement practice, the detection and quantification of GM emissions is a challenge. Two common measurement techniques include the shallow in-soil gas concentration approach and soil surfac…

  • Rite of passage into the teaching profession? Australian pre-service teachers’ professional learning in the Indo-Pacific through the New Colombo Plan

Ly Thi Tran, Trúc Thị Thanh Lê et al.•ARTICLE•Teachers and Teaching•2021

A growing number of pre-service teachers (PSTs), who traditionally tend to be less internationally mobile than students in other fields, are participating in mobility programs to the Indo-Pacific region. This article analyses the extent to which Australian pre-service teachers’ international mobility experiences via the New Colombo Plan (NCP) contribute to the development of their professional capabilities and preparedness for the teaching profes…

Agreement on rural responses to flooding is complex and contested. • Policy can undermine community resilience through paternalist approaches. • Authorities can undermine resilience by ignoring findings from public consultations. • Risk management policy can add to polarisation amongst at-risk rural communities. • Collaborative approaches can empower resilient communities and avoid polarisation

Spurred by economic, cultural and educational factors, joint programs have become an essential supplement to Chinese education. Despite the obvious and diverse benefits brought about by joint programs, various challenges arise. The purpose of this paper is to evaluate the be…
