Exploring the Relationships Among Teacher Autonomy Support, Intrinsic Motivation, Academic Resilience, Learning Engagement, and Well‐Being: A Mixed Methods Study
This sequential explanatory mixed‐methods study explored how teachers' autonomy support influences students' learning engagement and well‐being in online learning environments, with intrinsic motivation and academic resilience as mediators. Quantitative data were gathered through surveys of 990 university students, followed by in‐depth qualitative interviews with 12 selected participants. The quantitative findings revealed that teacher autonomy s…
From human to AI interactions: Mediating effects of self‐efficacy on students' engagement and well‐being in generative AI ‐assisted learning environments
Generative AI (GenAI) is reshaping the way students acquire knowledge by providing personalized and interactive learning opportunities. However, despite its growing adoption, the mechanisms through which these interactions influence students' engagement and well‐being in GenAI‐assisted learning environments (GenAI‐ALEs) remain underexplored. This study surveyed 750 university students in central China to investigate how diverse interaction forms …
Change in depressive symptom scores to assess the risk of new-onset dual sensory impairment in middle-aged and older adults: A nationwide cohort study
Background: Evidence of the association between change in depressive symptom scores and new-onset dual sensory impairment (DSI) remain underexplored. We aimed to investigate the relationship between depressive symptom scores and the risk of new-onset DSI in middle-aged and older adults. Methods: The study included 3,237 participants. The Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression Scale (CES-D-10) was used to assess depression symptoms. CES-D-10 …
Examining the Effects of Habit and Self-Efficacy on Users’ Acceptance of a Map-Based Online Learning System via an Extended TAM
Digital maps have become important teaching and learning tools in education. However, limited research has examined the factors influencing learners’ acceptance of map-based online learning systems. This study proposes and validates an extended Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) that integrates two psychological constructs—habit and self-efficacy—into the original TAM framework to better explain students’ behavioural intention to use a map-based o…
Design-Based Theory for Lasso Adjustment in Randomized Block Experiments and Rerandomized Experiments
Blocking, a special case of rerandomization, is routinely implemented in the design stage of randomized experiments to balance the baseline covariates. This study proposes a regression adjustment method based on the least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (Lasso) to efficiently estimate the average treatment effect in randomized block experiments with high-dimensional covariates. We derive the asymptotic properties of the proposed estimat…
Association of dietary patterns with anxiety and depression symptoms in people living with HIV: A population-based cross-sectional study from China
The findings indicate that adherence to the egg-dairy pattern and the vegetable-fruit pattern is associated with a reduced risk of anxiety and depressive symptoms among individuals living with HIV. Diet is acknowledged as a modifiable risk factor for experiencing anxiety and depression symptoms, providing valuable insights for potential precision health interventions for individuals living with HIV
A J-shaped association between weight-adjusted waist index and cardiovascular disease: A longitudinal study from the CHARLS database
This prospective longitudinal study suggests a J-shaped relationship between WWI and incident CVD in Chinese population. WWI was positively associated with incident CVD only at WWI ≥ 10. This finding suggests that WWI may be an intervention indicator for reducing CVD
Lizhong decoction ameliorates ulcerative colitis by inhibiting ferroptosis of enterocytes via the Nrf2/SLC7A11/GPX4 pathway
Shenqisherong pill ameliorates neuronal apoptosis by inhibiting the JNK/caspase-3 signaling pathway in a rat model of cervical cord compression
A randomized controlled experiment for comparing face-to-face and online teaching during Covid-19 pandemic
Randomized controlled experiments have shown that face-to-face teaching is more effective in delivering various learning outcomes than asynchronous online teaching. Unlike the asynchronous online teaching mode, the synchronous online mode has a live instruction component and is more comparable to the face-to-face mode. A small-sized randomized controlled experiment involving 50 students showed that there was no significant difference in student r…
The impact of healthcare industry convergence on the performance of the public health system: A geospatial modeling study of provincial panel data from China
Objective: This paper examines the impact of healthcare industry convergence on the performance of the public health system in the eastern, central, and western regions of China. Methods: Public health performance was measured by a composite index of three standards: average life expectancy at birth, perinatal mortality, and maternal mortality. The healthcare industry convergence was measured using a coupling coordination degree method. The spati…
Testing Error Distribution by Kernelized Stein Discrepancy in Multivariate Time Series Models
Knowing the error distribution is important in many multivariate time series applications. To alleviate the risk of error distribution mis-specification, testing methodologies are needed to detect whether the chosen error distribution is correct. However, the majority of existing tests only deal with the multivariate normal distribution for some special multivariate time series models, and thus cannot be used for testing the often observed heavy-…
Multifrequency-Band Tests for White Noise Under Heteroscedasticity
This article proposes a new family of multifrequency-band tests for the white noise hypothesis by using the maximum overlap discrete wavelet packet transform. At each scale, the proposed multifrequency-band test has the chi-square asymptotic null distribution under mild conditions, which allow the data to be heteroscedastic. Moreover, an automatic multifrequency-band test is further proposed by using a data-driven method to select the scale, and …
Testing for the Martingale Difference Hypothesis in Multivariate Time Series Models
This article proposes a general class of tests to examine whether the error term is a martingale difference sequence in a multivariate time series model with parametric conditional mean. These new tests are formed based on recently developed martingale difference divergence matrix (MDDM), and they provide formal tools to test the multivariate martingale difference hypothesis in the literature for the first time. Under suitable conditions, the asy…
Etiology Exploration of Non-alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease From Traditional Chinese Medicine Constitution Perspective: A Cross-Sectional Study
Background: From the traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) constitution theory perspective, the phlegm-dampness constitution is thought to be closely related to the occurrence of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). However, this viewpoint still lacks rigorous statistical evidence. This study aimed to test the association between the phlegm-dampness constitution and NAFLD. Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional study. Participants were reside…

Methods: Based on the 2017 China Comprehensive Social Survey Data (CGSS), data on happiness were retrieved from 11,997 residents in 28 provinces in China. An ordered-probit model was used to e…
Buffered Autoregressive Models With Conditional Heteroscedasticity: An Application to Exchange Rates
This article introduces a new model called the buffered autoregressive model with generalized autoregressive conditional heteroscedasticity (BAR-GARCH). The proposed model, as an extension of the BAR model in Li et al. (2015 Li, G.D., Guan, B., Li, W.K., and Yu, P. L.H. (2015), “Hysteretic Autoregressive Time Series Models,” Biometrika, 102, 717–723.[Crossref], [PubMed], [Web of Science ®] , [Google Scholar]), can capture the buffering phenomena …

A New Pearson-Type QMLE for Conditionally Heteroscedastic Models
This article proposes a novel Pearson-type quasi-maximum likelihood estimator (QMLE) of GARCH(p, q) models. Unlike the existing Gaussian QMLE, Laplacian QMLE, generalized non-Gaussian QMLE, or LAD estimator, our Pearsonian QMLE (PQMLE) captures not just the heavy-tailed but also the skewed innovations. Under strict stationarity and some weak moment conditions, the strong consistency and asymptotic normality of the PQMLE are obtained. With no furt…
The geothermal potential of urban heat islands
The geothermal potential of urban heat islands
The urban heat island effect and climate change have not only caused surface temperature increase in most urban areas, but during the last hundred years also enhanced the subsurface temperature by several degrees. This phenomenon yields aquifers with elevated temperature, which are attractive though underestimated thermal energy reservoirs. Detailed groundwater temperature measurements in Cologne (Germany) and Winnipeg (Canada) reveal high subsur…
