  • Impact of restricted marital practices on genetic variation in an endogamous Gujarati group

    Open Access•Trevor J Pemberton, Fang‐Yuan Li et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Physical…•2012•Cited by: 4•References: 50

Recent studies have examined the influence on patterns of human genetic variation of a variety of cultural practices. In India, centuries‐old marriage customs have introduced extensive social structuring into the contemporary population, potentially with significant consequences for genetic variation. Social stratification in India is evident as social classes that are defined by endogamous groups known as castes. Within a caste, there exist endo…

  • Argentine population genetic structure

    Open Access•Michael F Seldin, Chao Tian et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Physical…•2007•Cited by: 4•References: 35

Argentine population genetic structure was examined using a set of 78 ancestry informative markers (AIMs) to assess the contributions of European, Amerindian, and African ancestry in 94 individuals members of this population. Using the Bayesian clustering algorithm STRUCTURE, the mean European contribution was 78%, the Amerindian contribution was 19.4%, and the African contribution was 2.5%. Similar results were found using weighted least mean sq…

  • The International HapMap Project

    Open Access•Richard A Gibbs, John W Belmont et al.•ARTICLE•Nature•2003

The goal of the International HapMap Project is to determine the common patterns of DNA sequence variation in the human genome and to make this information freely available in the public domain. An international consortium is developing a map of these patterns across the genome by determining the genotypes of one million or more sequence variants, their frequencies and the degree of association between them, in DNA samples from populations with a…
