  • Dermatoglyphic findings of a Coloured sample from the Transvaal, Republic of South Africa

    H W Hitzeroth, H Brehme et al.•ARTICLE•Zeitschrift für Morphologie und…•1986

Dermatoglyphic findings from a sample of Coloureds from the Transvaal, Republic of South Africa, are presented. Finger, palm, toe and sole prints were obtained from 103 male and 104 female school children. We compared the Coloureds to some of the groups contributing to their an cestry. In some respects, especially finger ridge-counts, the Coloureds are more similar to Asians or Europeans, while in other respects, expecially patterns in interdigit…

  • On the genetic interrelationships of South African Negroes

    Open Access•H W Hitzeroth•ARTICLE•American Journal of Physical…•1986•Cited by: 2•References: 14

This study addresses the comparative genetic interrelationships between South African Negro groups. For this the genetic distances between seven ethnically defined Negro subsamples (total of 998 individuals) based on 24 genetic loci/polymorphisms are calculated by applying standard distance formulae. These computations offer an opportunity to evaluate the different polymorphisms in terms of their effects on the genetic distances. The genetic inte…

  • Finger ridge‐count variation among various Subsaharan African groups

    Open Access•R L Jantz, Cleone H Hawkinson et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Physical…•1982•Cited by: 7•References: 11

This paper addresses the question of the extent to which finger ridge‐count data are useful features with which to study population variation in Subsaharan Africa. Each subject was represented by a vector of 20 ridge‐counts, a radial and an ulnar count for each digit. Such data were available from 11 African groups, nine of which were indigenous Africans, and two, the South African Colored and South African Indians, contained a portion of non‐Afr…

  • Papillary system data of bantu-speaking, negrid populations ot the Republic of South Africa Part 2

    H Brehme, H W Hitzeroth•ARTICLE•Zeitschrift für Morphologie und…•1980

  • Hautleistenbefunde bei bantusprechenden, negriden Populationen der Republik Südafrika Teil 1

    H Brehme, H W Hitzeroth•ARTICLE•Zeitschrift für Morphologie und…•1979

  • Fisiese Antropologie Van Die Inheemse Mense in Suidelike Afrika

    H P Steyn, H W Hitzeroth•ARTICLE•The South African Archaeological…•1977•Cited by: 1
