  • Vitamin D heritability and effect of pregnancy status in Vervet monkeys ( Chlorocebus aethiops sabaeus ) under conditions of modest and high dietary supplementation

    Open Access•Geetha Chittoor, Nicholas M Pajewski et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Physical…•2016•Cited by: 1•References: 37

OBJECTIVES: The two objectives of the current study were to: 1) investigate the genetic contributions to variations in serum vitamin D concentrations under two dietary conditions (a standard monkey biscuit diet vs. a diet designed to model typical American consumption); and 2) explore the interaction of vitamin D with pregnancy status using a cohort of pedigreed female vervet/African green monkeys. METHODS: This study includes 185 female (≥3.5 ye…

  • Genetic Predictors of Depressive Symptoms in the Look Ahead Trial

    Jeanne M McCaffery, George D Papandonatos et al.•ARTICLE•Psychosomatic Medicine•2015

OBJECTIVES: Numerous studies have found elevated depressive symptoms among individuals with Type 2 diabetes, yet the mechanisms remain unclear. We examined whether genetic loci previously associated with depressive symptoms predict depressive symptoms among overweight/obese individuals with Type 2 diabetes or change in depressive symptoms during behavioral weight loss. METHODS: The Illumina CARe iSelect (IBC) chip and Cardiometabochip were charac…

  • Patterns of dental service utilization following nontraumatic dental condition visits to the emergency department in Wisconsin Medicaid

Open Access•Nicholas M Pajewski, Christopher Okunseri•ARTICLE•Journal of Public Health Dentistry•2012

Almost one in five adult Medicaid enrollees will subsequently return to the ED following a previous NTDC visit. The provision of definitive care for these individuals appears to primarily consist of extractions

  • Provision of fluoride varnish treatment by medical and dental care providers

Open Access•Christopher Okunseri, Anikó Szabó et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Public Health Dentistry•2010

Overall access and utilization of FVT increased, but substantial racial/ ethnic and geographic variation in the provision of FVT for children enrolled in Wisconsin Medicaid was observed. Future policies should incorporate measures that will specifically address the racial and geographic variations identified in this study

  • Primary Language Spoken at Home and Children's Dental Service Utilization in the United States

Open Access•Matthew Noyce, Anikó Szabó et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Public Health Dentistry•2009

Children that did not speak English at home were less likely to receive preventive or routine dental care. However, after adjusting for other socio-economic factors, our study suggests that language barriers may not play as pronounced a role in the receipt of dental care as that documented for medical services

  • Impact of family income and sickle cell disease on the health-related quality of life of children

    Open Access•Julie A Panepinto, Nicholas M Pajewski et al.•ARTICLE•Quality of Life Research•2008

Children with sickle cell disease have significantly impaired HRQL, even after considering the potential detrimental effect of family income on HRQL. Targeted interventions to improve these children's HRQL are warranted

  • Racial/Ethnic Disparities in Self‐Reported Pediatric Orthodontic Visits in the United States

Open Access•Christopher Okunseri, Nicholas M Pajewski et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Public Health Dentistry•2007

Substantial racial/ethnic disparities in self-reported orthodontic visits exist for Black and Hispanic children even after adjusting for possible covariates. Children from lower-income families and those without private health insurance were less likely to report an orthodontic visit in the United States
