  • Radiological Observations of Stomach Changes Accompanying Threat of Injection in a Sample of Peptic Ulcer Patients

    Horst Jungmann, P Venning•ARTICLE•Psychosomatic Medicine•1955

The gastric peristalsis of a group of persons with active peptic ulcer was observed during a control period, and changes accompanying the threat of an injection were noted. Comparison of this group with a previous sample of normal subjects examined in the same way shows: About a fourth of the ulcer cases showed periods of interruption of peristalsis during the control period which were not seen in the normal group. The proportions of people in th…

  • Note on the Gastric Peristaltic Rate Observed Radiologically in a Group of Mental Patients

    Horst Jungmann, P Venning•ARTICLE•Psychosomatic Medicine•1954

A previous investigation of the gastric peristaltic rates of 78 persons, after a barium meal, showed that one person of this sample had a very much more variable rate of peristalsis on the day of observation than any of the others. It was subsequently found that this woman suffered from recurrent mental illness. The mean peristaltic rates and standard deviations of these rates were obtained for 20 mental patients during a single x-ray examination…
