  • Tibetan Morphology and Clines of Genetical Variations in Tibet

    Open Access•V K Bhalla, Vijender Bhalla•ARTICLE•The Journal of Anthropological…•1976

A morphogenetic study of Tibetans is attempted here with the objective of describing their distinctive racial features, assesing regional vari-ations and re-examining the classical hypothesis of two distinct races in Tibet. Following points emerge from the study:i) The Tibetans, by and large, exhibit physical features which identify them with the Mongoloid race. They have scanty hair growth on the body, oblique eyes with epicanthic fold, jutting …

  • Occipital hair whorl as a racial criterion

    Open Access•V K Bhalla, Vijender Bhalla et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Physical…•1968•References: 4

Reports on the incidence of single clockwise occipital whorls as opposed to double and counterclockwise whorls reveal no consistent geographical pattern. Earlier workers arrived at different conclusions. While Bernstein ('25b) and Schwartzburg ('27) suggested a dominant inheritance of counter‐clockwise whorls, others like Winchester ('58) and Montagu ('63) believed the clockwise condition to be dominant. In the light of these and some other studi…

  • A Biological Comparison of Eight Endogamous Groups of the Same Rank [and Comments and Replies]

    Irawati Karve, K C Malhotra et al.•ARTICLE•Current Anthropology•1968•Cited by: 8

In order to examine the hypothesis that some Indian groups formerly called "sub-castes" (with the implication of common origin) are in fact separate groups which at different times and places achieved the same social rank, members of eight endogamous groups, all called Brahmins, in Maharashtra were studied for morphological and genetic characters. The statistics developed by Sanghvi-T and G -and an additional one, S (somatoscopic difference) base…

  • The ABO blood groups and ABH secretions in the Tibetans

    Open Access•V K Bhalla, Vijender Bhalla et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Physical…•1966•References: 1

ABO Blood groups and ABH secretion factors were investigated among 62 Tibetans at Rahla (Kulu), India. The frequencies of the alleles “P,” “q” and “r” have been found to be 0.166, 0.187 and 0.647 respectively, which are quite comparable to the results obtained by Prince Peter et al. ('61) and Buchi ('52). A high frequency of secretors is found among the Tibetans which favours Buchi's ('54) assumption that the true Mongoloids have a rather high se…
