Late Eneolithic funerary practices in southern Poland reveal a complex interplay of tradition, adaptation, and local expression. Early medieval burial from the culmination of the Old Town Hill in Sandomierz
The subject of this article is a grave dated to the end of the 10th c. AD discovered in 2016 at the culmination of the so-called Old Town Hill in Sandomierz. The grave, just like a burial found in 2006 – located a dozen or so metres from the discussed feature – was unusually oriented – approximately along the N-S axis. Two flint axes from Sadłowice, Opatów District, Świętokrzyskie Voivodeship
Two axes made of striped flint were discovered in Sadłowice (Opatów District), located in the central part of the Sandomierz Upland, by the Opatówka River. One of them is exceptionally large. These artefacts probably come from a damaged grave (or graves) attributed to the Globular Amphora culture
Absolute chronology of settlement remains of the Globular Amphora culture in the Sandomierz Upland (Site Gałkowice-Ocin, Mierzanowice, Złota–Nad Wawrem)
Under the project financed by the National Science Centre no 2014/12/S/HS3/00355 the first series of chronometric data has been obtained which forms the basis for establishing the chronology of the Globular Amphora culture in the Sandomierz Upland. OBJECTIVE: We aim to identify maternal genetic affinities between the Middle to Final Neolithic (3850-2300 BC) populations from present-day Poland and possible genetic influences from the Pontic steppe. Złota culture grave from Kleczanów, Sandomierz district, Świętokrzyskie Voivodeship
In 2014, a niche grave linked with the Złota culture was accidentally discovered in Kleczanów (Sandomierz district, Świętokrzyskie Voivodeship). An approximately 25-year-old man was inhumed inside. He was crippled: one of his legs was shorter as a result of an improperly healed fracture. His body was subjected to magical rituals. In the Sandomierz Upland 39 confirmed or putative cemeteries of the Funnel Beaker Culture have been discovered so far, in addition to 4 burials found within settlements.
