  • Genetic studies on the Cayo Santiago rhesus macaques: A review of 40 years of research

Open Access•Anja Widdig, Matthew J Kessler et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Primatology•2016

Genetic studies not only contribute substantially to our current understanding of the natural variation in behavior and health in many species, they also provide the basis of numerous in vivo models of human traits. Despite the many challenges posed by the high level of biological and social complexity, a long lifespan and difficult access in the field, genetic studies of primates are particularly rewarding because of the close evolutionary relat…

  • Interlineage genetic differentiation among rhesus macaques on Cayo Santiago

Open Access•Carol McMillan, Carol Ann McMillan et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Physical…•1981•Cited by: 6•References: 28

An analysis was done of the patterning of genetic distances between female lineages of rhesus macaques ( Macaca mulatta ) on Cayo Santiago. The distances (Nei, 1972) were calculated pairwise between all lineages using data from the G, H, I, J, K, L, P and Q blood group systems. Distances between lineages were found to be greater in 1972 than in 1976. Partial correlation coefficients were computed between genetic distances and troop boundaries, co…
