Implementing new health interventions in developing countries
Although possible that four milestones were not associated with countries beginning implementation, we propose an alternative interpretation; that the milestones were not realized early enough in each intervention's development to shorten the time to beginning implementation. We discuss a framework built upon existing literature for consideration during the development of future interventions. Identifying critical milestones and their timing rela…
What is Happening to Satisfaction and Quality of Relationships Between Step/Grandparents and Step/Grandchildren
The purpose of this study was twofold: (1) to explore factors regarding quality of relationships and satisfaction, across generations, in terms of gender and age; and (2) to understand the perspectives of both step/grandparents and step/grandchildren. In this study, young adult college students and their identified grandparents or stepgrandparents described their relationship in terms of satisfaction, companionship, instrumental aid, intimacy, nu…

Class I HLA antigens in two long‐separated populations
Class I HLA antigens have been compared in 5,835 Melanesians of Papua New Guinea and 2,028 Amerindians of South America. The sample includes 50 PNGMel ethnolinguistic groups and 22 SAmlnd groups. Both carry 15 serologically defined antigens and an undefined C allele. Except for A2 in Papua New Guinea and Cwl in South America, these antigens are widely distributed in their respective populations. Nine (A2 and A24, B39, B60 and B62, and Cwl, Cw3, C…
The Impact of Parental Divorce on College Adjustment
The prevalence of families experiencing divorce has lead to an increase in studies examining the consequences of divorce for children. Few studies have focused, however, on the possible consequences for the late adolescent/early adulthood group, and the literature concerning the impact of parental divorce on collcge ad- justment is even more sparse. The purpose of this study was to examine: (1) the impact of natural parent marital status on colle…
Attitudes Toward Marriage
This article contains both a review and an expansion of the research regarding the effects of perceived parental conflict, gender, and family structure on the attitudes toward marriage of young adults. From a randomly selected list of 1000 college freshmen, 340 respondents ages 18-22, 273 from intact and 67 from divorced families, met the inclusion criteria of the study. The Hil Favorableness of Attitudes Toward Marriage Scale (FAMS) and measures…
Family Cohesion in Remarried Families
Clinicians have identified family cohesion as an important variable in remarried family well-being. However, the empirical literature provides little support to validate the claim that family cohesion is more important for remarried families than in first marriage families. The purpose of this study was to examine family cohesion in remarried families and to compare their levels of cohesion with those of a national random sample of intact, first …
