    Open Access•Calvin F Settlage, Sandra Bemesderfer et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of the American…•1991•Cited by: 4•References: 14

The appeal cycle has four phases: the adaptational phase, the distress phase, the appeal phase, and the interactional phase. The progression from the adaptational into the dis…

  • An Exploratory Study of Mother-Child Interaction During the Second Year of Life

    Open Access•Calvin F Settlage, Judith Rosenthal et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of the American…•1990•Cited by: 2•References: 12

The study employed a naturalistic, semistructured situation for the observation of mother-child behavior. The experimental stimulus was the progressive diversion of the mother's attention away from her child. This diversion evoked separation anxiety in the child and the individual and interactive regulatory behaviors of the mother-child pair.…

  • Bamboo Phobia In An Eighteen-Month-Old Boy

Open Access•Owen Renik, Philip Spielman et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of the American…•1978•Cited by: 2•References: 7

We have presented a developmental history and an account of the treatment of an eighteen-month-old boy who had a bamboo phobia. Conceptual problems concerning drive organization, the expression of drive derivatives, and object relations have been explored. The correlation of these with Mahler's separation-individuation theory has been considered. Analysis of the bamboo phobia revealed two castration themes. One related to projections onto the fat…
