Relationship between rumination and symptoms of posttraumatic stress disorder – a cross-sectional network analysis
Background Rumination is associated with the development and maintenance of PTSD. However, significant gaps remain in understanding how specific PTSD symptoms relate to rumination at a granular level, particularly when controlling for common comorbidities like depression and anxiety. This study used multi-level network analysis to examine these relationships in adult survivors of traumatic events. Methods Six hundred sixty-one adult survivors (me…
Unraveling PTSD
Results suggest that intrusive symptoms may be more resistant to residential treatment for PTSD and contribute to lower likelihood of treatment success. Future work is needed to examine differential treatment response for PTSD clusters, to inform the improvement of current and creation of novel treatment interventions, and to better address intrusive symptoms to maximize PTSD treatment gains. Some closure on exposure—Realigning the perspective on trauma treatment and finding a pathway forward
We respond to commentaries by Brown (2024) and Najavits (2024) on our original work titled "To Expose or Not to Expose: A Comprehensive Perspective on Treatment for Posttraumatic Stress Disorder" (Rubenstein et al., 2024). Their work serves to augment the original argument that exposure is an important change factor in the amelioration of traumatic stress but should be viewed more broadly than traditional treatment paradigms suggest. We are grate…
A preliminary investigation of VA PTSD residential treatment for veterans admitted from unstable housing or incarceration
VA Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) Residential Rehabilitation Treatment Programs (RRTPs) may assuage barriers homeless and justice-involved veterans experience in accessing and benefitting from PTSD treatment. However, the benefit of RRTPs among these veterans has yet to be researched. We conducted an examination of PTSD and depressive symptoms across admission, discharge, and four-month follow-up among 243 veterans admitted from unstable ho…
Mindfulness as a mediator between trauma exposure and mental health outcomes
The relationship between lifetime trauma burden and various mental health issues of relevance to U.S. veterans may be mediated by mindfulness, or the ability to pay attention to the present moment. Interventions that bolster mindfulness may help mitigate the negative impact of cumulative traumas in this population. (PsycInfo Database Record (c) 2021 APA, all rights reserved)
Longitudinal Association of Therapeutic Alliance and Clinical Outcomes in Supported Housing for Chronically Homeless Adults
The Mental Health of Children Exposed to Maternal Mental Illness and Homelessness
Changes in Outpatient Psychiatric Diagnosis in Privately Insured Children and Adolescents from 1995 to 2000
Revisiting Rapprochement in the Light of Contemporary Developmental Theories
Margaret Mahler's thinking, revolutionary for its time, led to the observational study of mother-infant pairs, followed almost day by day as the preverbal infant developed into a toddler whose increasing cognitive capacities made new demands on the mother's presence and emotional availability. The rapprochement crisis, as formulated based on these observations, is reexamined in the light of contemporary theory, and the concept of co-construction …
