  • Journal of Sociology and Social Welfare Vol. 45 No. 2

Amnon Boehm, Neveen Ali et al.•ARTICLE•The Journal of Sociology & Social…•2018

The research focused on two aspects of political involvement among social workers. The first was the direct political involvement of social workers on behalf of their clients, and the second, the social workers' encouragement of their clients' involvement in political activity. The main purpose of the research was to identify the factors that explain these two types of political involvement among social workers. The data were collected by means of a…

  • The Relationship Between Lithology, Flaking Properties and Artefact Manufacture for Australian Silcretes

    Open Access•John A Webb, Marian M Domanski et al.•ARTICLE•Archaeometry•2008•Cited by: 6•References: 40

Mechanical properties of Australian silcrete strongly influenced raw material selection and artefact manufacture. Microcrystalline silcrete, with high compressive and tensile strength, is suitable for blade tools requiring fine retouch. Fine‐grained silcrete (high compressive strength but lower tensile strength) was often used for blade‐based implements, but is more susceptible to edge fracturing. Medium‐grained silcrete has poor flaking properti…

  • Mechanical Properties of Stone Artefact Materials and the Effect of Heat Treatment

    Open Access•Marian M Domanski, M DOMANSKI et al.•ARTICLE•Archaeometry•1994•Cited by: 37•References: 33

Mechanical testing of lithologies used for stone tool manufacture has shown that fracture toughness is the most objective measure of the quality of raw materials shaped by either flaking or pecking/grinding. Materials amenable to pressure flaking and blade manufacture have low values of fracture toughness, whereas those shaped by pecking/grinding have high values. The fracture toughness test is also the most definitive for quantifying the improve…
