  • Compositional and Microstructural Study of KoryŎ Celadon and Whiteware Excavated from SŎRi Kiln in Kyŏnggi Province

    Open Access•Carolyn K Koh Choo, Y E LEE et al.•ARTICLE•Archaeometry•2004•References: 4

An extensive study of the composition and microstructure of celadon and whiteware sherds excavated at Sori, one of the most important sites that were active during the founding stage of the stoneware and porcelain industry in Korea, was carried out. The analysed sherds were organized according to four different levels of the excavation and four different styles of haemurigup foot rim. Principal component analysis of the chemical compositions of t…

  • A scientific study of Choson white ware

    Open Access•Carolyn K Koh Choo, K H Kim et al.•ARTICLE•Archaeometry•2002•Cited by: 4

Scientific study of kiln site no. 9 at Usanni, one of the earliest royal Kwangju kiln complexes in operation (from the early 15th to the early 16th century), shows that the technological expertise used to produce white ware was inherited from the celadon technology of the Koryo dynasty. The body material, of low Al 2 O 3 and high SiO 2 content, is based on porcelain stone. Such a material, with almost no titanium and a low level of iron, was a re…

  • A Comparative Scientific Study of the Earliest Kiln Sites of Koryǒ Celadon

    Open Access•C K KOHCHOO, Carolyn Kyong-Shin KohChoo et al.•ARTICLE•Archaeometry•1999•Cited by: 2•References: 3

Four of the Koryǒ dynasty's earliest kiln sites are studied for the macroscopic, compositional, and microstructural characteristics of their celadon products. Recent excavation of Sǒri and surface investigation of Kangjin sites provided new materials for closer examination of the origin and early developments of celadon technology in traditional Korea. Two other sites, Wǒnhǔngni and Osari, with archaeological characteristics in common with the ol…
