  • Baltic Amber in Aššur. Forms and Significance of Amber Exchange between Europe and the Middle East, c.2000–1300 BC

Jan‐Heinrich Bunnefeld, Jörg Adam Becker et al.•ARTICLE•Acta Archaeologica•2023

Under the large ziggurat of Aššur, Iraq, two Baltic amber beads were found in a foundation deposit dating to c. 1800–1750 BC . Thereby, they represent one of the earliest and remotest evidence of this material. Its extreme rarity in the Mediterranean and the Middle East before c. 1550 BC and its restriction there to high-ranking sites could be explained by the fact that the Únětice culture and the Wessex culture controlled the exchange of this ra…

  • Identifying mixtures of metals by multi‐isotope analysis

Open Access•Dan Berger, Gerhard Brügmann et al.•ARTICLE•Archaeometry•2022•Cited by: 4•References: 34

This pilot study addresses the analytical characterisation of 26 well‐known bronze objects of the Early and Middle Bronze Age of Central and Northern Europe. Besides swords and axes of the hoards from Apa, Téglás and Hajdúsámson, the investigation includes the famous Sky Disc and its accompanying finds from the Nebra hoard and several full‐hilted swords from Period I in Denmark. In contrast to former publications, the isotopic systematics of lead…

  • Why the Nebra Sky Disc Dates to the Early Bronze Age. An Overview of the Interdisciplinary Results

    Open Access•Ernst Pernicka, Jörg Adam et al.•ARTICLE•Archaeologia Austriaca•2020•Cited by: 6•References: 1

It is not unusual that archaeological finds come under renewed scrutiny. This is actually an important part in the progress of scientific research. All the more so when important and ground-breaking discoveries are involved, like the Nebra Sky Disc, which is listed among the UNESCO â Memory of the Worldâ . However, in most cases a new assessment is based on new data or insights. None of this is presented in a recently published article by Gebhard…

  • Crafting Swords. The emergence and production of full-hilted swords in the Early Nordic Bronze Age

    Jan‐Heinrich Bunnefeld, Jan-Heinrich Bunnefeld•ARTICLE•Praehistorische Zeitschrift•2016

In Periode I kam d…

Open Access•Dan Berger, Christoph Berthold et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Archaeological Science…•2015•Cited by: 1•References: 4

  • Traditionen, Innovationen und Technologietransfer – zur Herstellungstechnik und Funktion älterbronzezeitlicher Schwerter in Niedersachsen

    Jan‐Heinrich Bunnefeld, Jan-Heinrich Bunnefeld et al.•ARTICLE•Praehistorische Zeitschrift•2011•Cited by: 2•References: 1
