  • Full‐Vector Archaeomagnetic Dating of a Medieval Limekiln at Pinilla Del Valle Site (Madrid, Spain)

    Open Access•Ángel Carrancho, A Goguitchaichvili et al.•ARTICLE•Archaeometry•2017•Cited by: 2•References: 50

Archaeomagnetic dating based on the full geomagnetic field vector was carried out on a limekiln excavated at Pinilla del Valle archaeological site (Madrid, Spain). The limekiln tradition in this area is largely documented by historical sources for recent centuries but the date of the studied kiln's last use was unknown. The combination of mean archaeomagnetic directional and absolute archaeointensity results shows that the kiln was last used betw…

  • Applying electrical resistivity tomography to the identification of endokarstic geometries in the Pleistocene Sites of the Sierra de Atapuerca (Burgos, Spain)

    Open Access•Ana Isabel Ortega-Martínez, A I Ortega et al.•ARTICLE•Archaeological Prospection•2010•Cited by: 5•References: 12

In this paper we have applied the electrical resistivity tomography (ERT) in order to prospect and to analyse the morphological and geological subsurface of the Torcas‐Cueva Mayor endokarst system (Sierra de Atapuerca). These works are essential to establish the development of the sedimentary infills where the Early and Middle Pleistocene archaeo‐palaeoanthropological sites of the Sierra de Atapuerca are located. The prospecting was based on the …

  • Characterizing the Sedimentary History of Cave Deposits, Using Archaeomagnetism and Rock Magnetism, Atapuerca (Northern Spain)

    Open Access•Josep M Parés, Alfredo Pérez-González et al.•ARTICLE•Archaeometry•2010•Cited by: 2•References: 51

We use a combination of rock magnetism (anisotropy of magnetic susceptibility, AMS) and magnetic polarity to characterize cave deposits and as a proxy for sedimentary fabric. In three localities at the Atapuerca archaeological site (Galeria, Gran Dolina and Sala de los Cíclopes), magnetic foliation (K max /K int ) is always greater than lineation (K int /K min ), consistent with a primary, depositional, sedimentary fabric. Our results, although p…
