  • Earthen Architecture and Seismic Impact at the Roman Villa of Rufio (Giano dell’Umbria, Italy)

Open Access•J Molina Vidal, María Pastor Quiles et al.•ARTICLE•Mélanges de l École française de…•2023•References: 24

The Roman villa of Rufio, built on the Augustan period, was occupied until the end of the 1st-beginning of 2nd century AD. This paper addresses one of the most fundamental, yet frequently almost invisible, part of the architectural forms of this complex, its structures erected with earth. Their study allows to interpret that they would have been rammed earth walls. This building technique can be difficult to identify in archaeological contexts an…

La villa fue construida en el último cuarto del siglo I a. C. como villa esclavista, presentando un ergastulum en la pars rustica (Fase 1). En la segunda mit…

  • The Supply of Glass at Portus Ilicitanus (Alicante, Spain): A Meta‐Analysis of Himt Glasses

Open Access•Jorge De Juan Ares, Nadine Schibille et al.•ARTICLE•Archaeometry•2019•Cited by: 5•References: 43

Portus Ilicitanus (Picola, Alicante) was the main sea harbour of the Roman Colonia Iulia Ilici Augusta and as such played a crucial role in the supply of fundamental commodities to the Iberian Peninsula. Excavations yielded large quantities of glass in fourth‐ and early fifth‐century contexts. Elemental analysis of 60 samples by laser ablation – inductively coupled plasma – mass spectrometry (LA–ICP–MS) confirmed that the glasses were imported fr…

  • The Roman Amphorae Average Capacity (AC)

Open Access•J Molina Vidal, Daniel Mateo Corredor•ARTICLE•Oxford Journal of Archaeology•2018•Cited by: 2•References: 15

This paper presents a methodological tool of statistical correction to assess the capacities of different Roman amphorae, whereby ceramic values are transformed into amounts of transported product. Based on scaled drawings of 1281 Roman amphorae, individual vessels’ capacities have been calculated by applying a CAD software to the inner profiles. Each vessel has been classified according to amphora types and the mean for each type has been calcul…

Open Access•Andrés María Adroher Auroux, César Carreras Monfort et al.•ARTICLE•Zephyrvs•2016

We introduce here a new quantification proposal in protohistoric and classical pottery studies. The proposal also includes the way of representation of such analytics with the aim of making homogeneous diagnostic, analysis and publication models of any kind of ceramic material disregarding their nature. Therefore, it can be useful for either stratigraphy assemblages or particular series. This standard attempts to improve data interconnection betw…

  • Archaeological Quantification of Pottery: The Rims Count Adjusted using the Modulus of Rupture (MR)

    Open Access•Daniel Mateo Corredor, J Molina Vidal•ARTICLE•Archaeometry•2016•Cited by: 8•References: 10

Archaeological quantification is a recurrent issue in research about pottery, its typologies and its distribution. We accept the validity of other methods of quantification—sherd count, minimum number of individuals (MNI) or sherd weight—but the methodology that we have proposed for quantification of assemblages of archaeological contexts is the rims count, which has to be transformed into coefficients of reference through a correction using the …

El elemento característico de los territorios en los que se asienta la granja romana de El Cabezo-Clot de Galvany es su carácter periférico y…
