This volume presents the results of archaeological survey and excavation at Eckweek, Somerset, which yielded one of the most important medieval rural settlement sequences yet excavated from south-west England. At the centre of the narrative is a succession of well-preserved buildings spanning the late 10th to the 14th centuries A.D. forming the nucleus of a Domesday manor and its Late Saxon precursor. • Biocompatibility

    David Williams, D F WILLIAMS•ARTICLE•Interdisciplinary Science Reviews•1990•Cited by: 1

Surgeons are finding an increasing variety of applications for synthetic materials and devices for purposes of reconstructing tissues following disease or trauma. It is not surprising that difficulties are encountered as soon as a foreign material, whether it is metal, plastic, ceramic or composite, is placed within the body, for there are inevitable interactions between the tissues and the material. Iain MacIvor, M Clare Thomas et al.•ARTICLE•Proceedings of the Society of…•1981

NS 843798. The N and W ramparts of the fort and part of the praetentura were examined. The 'additional margins' of the W rampart were shown to be an ascensus on the inside, and interleaved road surfaces and rampart tumble on the outside. The earliest structures in the praetentura appeared to be temporary and were followed by two timber buildings, presumably barrack-blocks. All evidence for putative Antonine II buildings had been removed in 1903 b…

HY 307125. Report of excavations on the Class I henge together with discussion (by E W Marwick) of the folklore surrounding an outlying standing stone, the Stone of Odin, and a catalogue of important 18th and 19th century illustrations of both sites. Excavation of the henge revealed that a ring of twelve stones was originally planned and that a complex stone and timber setting occupied the centre, grooved ware was found in both the central featur…
