Developing rectification programs for small computers
A series of programs, widely known by the name aerial, is available for the rectification of oblique aerial photographs. The programs have developed over many years, in response to users' needs and increasing computer power. In recent years two major modifications have been introduced: a version to rectify raster images under 16-bit versions of Microsoft Windows; and a version with an extended range of facilities to run under 32-bit versions of W…
A new statistical approach to reconstruction from area magnetometry data
The inversion of area magnetometry data, to estimate the signal source, presents a difficult mathematical problem. The EM algorithm (estimation–maximization), developed in statistical imaging, provides an iterative technique to solve such problems on the basis of maximum likelihood. For the purpose of this work, the signal source is reconstructed as a distribution of vertical prisms. Although the results from the pure EM algorithm are not entirel…
Contouring techniques for archaeological distributions
Research Notes and Application Reports a Microcomputer System for Data Logging in Geophysical Surveying
A system is described whereby readings from an earth resistance meter may be recorded automatically on a small portable computer. Field tests have demonstrated that the system is more reliable and more economical than manual recording, and that the results may be processed quickly and conveniently into their final form
