Approach to the Manufacturing Process and Firing Temperature of the Pre‐Hispanic Maya Pottery From the Yohaltun Valley, Campeche, Mexico
Reconstructing Maya lifeways and technology is a current challenge in archaeology. The Yohaltun Valley shows valuable archaeological evidence of the Maya culture, but this site has been scarcely studied. In this work, various analytical techniques were used to discuss and elucidate the raw material, technology, and manufacturing process parameters of pre‐Hispanic Maya potsherds from the Yohaltun Valley in Campeche, Mexico, which had been stored a…
An Approach to Identify and Understand the Main Processes of Weathering that Affect the Pre‐Hispanic STELAE Located in the Calakmul Biosphere Reserve in Campeche, Mexico
Oxpemul is an archaeological site with pre‐Hispanic legacy located in the Calakmul biosphere reserve in Mexico. The stelae in this site have important epigraphic records of the Mayan culture. However, this information can be lost due to weathering processes that these structures undergo. In this work, ion chromatography analysis of ions extracted from samples obtained in situ using cotton poultices was used to discuss the weathering processes inv…
