  • Climate and atmospheric circulation changes over the past 1000 years reconstructed from oxygen isotopes in lake-sediment carbonate from Ireland

    Open Access•Jonathan A Holmes, Jonathan Holmes et al.•ARTICLE•The Holocene•2010•Citada por: 1•Referências: 1

A 1000 year long subdecadal-resolution record of carbonate oxygen isotopes (δ 18 O c ) from Lough-na-Shade, Ireland, provides evidence for changing atmospheric circulation over northwest Europe. The total range of δ 18 O c values (>5‰) is too large to be explained by changes in water temperature. Moreover, good correlation between the lake record and a previously published δ 18 O time series from an Irish speleothem indicates that the changes in …

  • Towards a New Approach to Archaeomagnetic Dating in Europe Using Geomagnetic Field Modelling

    Open Access•A LODGE, R HOLME•ARTICLE•Archaeometry•2009•Citada por: 2•Referências: 27

We introduce a new approach to producing secular variation curves for archaeomagnetic dating, using global geomagnetic field modelling techniques. Using published palaeosecular variation curves for five European locations as input, and a previous global model for regularization, we produce a model for the period ad 0–1900, which reproduces the input curves within their 95% confidence intervals, and successfully fits data from other regions in Eur…
