  • A Decade of HIV Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) Cascade Monitoring

Open Access•James Macgibbon, Daniel Storer et al.•ARTICLE•AIDS and Behavior•2026

We have monitored Australia's maturing HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) program for the past decade, providing a unique view of long-term implementation among gay, bisexual and queer men and non-binary people. Using two national surveys, the GBQ + Community Periodic Surveys (GCPS, 2014-2023, N = 78,378) and the PrEPARE Project (2017-2023, N = 5,278), we constructed and iteratively refined cascades to monitor PrEP suitability, awareness, use, a…

  • Exploring the Interest and Intention to Use Long-Acting Injectable PrEP (LAI-PrEP) Among Gay, Bisexual and Other Men Who Have Sex with Men (GBMSM) in the Netherlands

Open Access•Johann Kolstee, Haoyi Wang et al.•ARTICLE•AIDS and Behavior•2026

Long-acting injectable PrEP (LAI-PrEP) provides opportunities to expand HIV prevention coverage in the Netherlands. Understanding which Dutch gay, bisexual and other men who have sex with men (GBMSM) are interested in using LAI-PrEP when available can support HIV prevention efforts. Survey data was collected online via the PROTECT survey from 1,447 GBMSM in the Netherlands between October 2023 and March 2024. Multivariable logistic analysis was c…

  • Explicit Relationship Agreements and HIV Pre-exposure Prophylaxis Use by Gay and Bisexual Men in Relationships

Open Access•James Macgibbon, Benjamin R Bavinton et al.•ARTICLE•Archives of Sexual Behavior•2023

Relationship agreements are important for HIV prevention among gay and bisexual men (GBM) in relationships, with research earlier in the HIV epidemic often finding that agreements specified monogamy or condom use with casual partners. There is evidence that HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) has shifted sexual practices among some men in relationships, such as allowing condomless sex with casual partners, but there has been little attention paid…

  • Covid-19 Vaccination Uptake and Hesitancy in a National Sample of Australian Gay and Bisexual Men

Open Access•Martin Holt, James Macgibbon et al.•ARTICLE•AIDS and Behavior•2022

Minority groups may face additional barriers to vaccination. In April-June 2021, we assessed the level of COVID-19 vaccination and willingness to be vaccinated in a national, online survey of 1280 gay and bisexual men in Australia. Over a quarter of the sample (28.0%) had been partially or fully vaccinated, and 80.0% of the unvaccinated were willing to be vaccinated. Vaccination was independently associated with older age, being university educat…

  • Increasing Belief in the Effectiveness of HIV Treatment as Prevention

  • Harm Reduction in Process

Open Access•Davi Martinelli Gonçalves, Johann Kolstee et al.•ARTICLE•Contemporary Drug Problems•2016•Cited by: 2•References: 37

In recent work on environmental and health risks, Isabelle Stengers has suggested that governing logics have been seized by a strange injunction: “the right not to pay attention.” She characterizes “paying attention” as an art that brings into play connections we are in the habit of keeping separate. In this article, we use this insight to characterize different forms of prevention in the drugs field, arguing that “modes of attention” are an impo…
