  • Why Do You Watch This Rough Stuff? Assessing Predictors of Female Pornography Preferences

    Open Access•Maximilian T P von Andrian-Werburg, Sascha Schwarz et al.•ARTICLE•The Journal of Sex Research•2026•References: 7

Different studies show that women are, on average, more interested than men in pornographic themes related to dominance and submission, including rape. Using a biopsychosocial approach, a total of 571 women, representative of age and education level, from Germany, were studied to explore the factors influencing the consumption of such pornography. Participants were experimentally exposed to either a consensual written pornographic stimulus or one…

  • Fantasy Made Flesh - A Network Analysis of the Reciprocal Relationship between Sexual Fantasies, Pornography Usage, and Sexual Behavior

    Open Access•Maximilian T P von Andrian-Werburg, Eric Klopp et al.•ARTICLE•The Journal of Sex Research•2023•Cited by: 4•References: 2

Based on different theories in media research ( 3 AM, catalyst model of violent crime, reinforcing spirals model), we further explore the relationship between pornography use, sexual fantasy, and behavior. We suggest that pornography use appears so persistent across time and culture because it is related to a human universal, the ability to fantasize. Consequently, pornography use seems to be an opportunity to acquire media-mediated sexual fantas…

  • A Re-evaluation of Online Pornography Use in Germany

    Open Access•Maximilian T P von Andrian-Werburg, Pascal Siegers et al.•ARTICLE•Archives of Sexual Behavior•2023•Cited by: 1•References: 36

Several researchers have questioned the reliability of pornography research's findings. Following a recent call to use more reliable data sources, we conducted two analyses to investigate patterns and predictors of online pornography use (OPU). Our analyses were based on data from a large-scale German online web tracking panel ( N = 3018) gathered from June 2018 to June 2019. The study we present here has two parts: In the first part, we looked a…

  • Can I confidently guess who you are? Personality and intelligence perception in online dating

    Open Access•Maximilian T P von Andrian-Werburg, Dorothea C Adler et al.•ARTICLE•Studies in Communication and Media•2020•Cited by: 1•References: 9

We conducted two computer-mediated speed dating studies to evaluate personality perception based on language use in online dating and analyzed the data with Bayesian statistics. In each study, participants first reported mating-relevant personality traits (Big Five, sociosexual orientation) and we assessed their intelligence (N1 = 186, N2 = 618). Subsequently, we conducted computer-mediated speed dating sessions at our laboratory (n1 = 56, n2 = 9…
