  • Growth Trajectories of Peer Norms, Self-efficacy and Condom Use Behavior Among Sexually Active Chinese Men Who Have Sex with Men: Latent Class Analysis and Growth Mixture Modeling

Open Access•Haochu Li, Joseph D Tucker et al.•ARTICLE•AIDS and Behavior•2019

  • Associations between maternal weekly air pollutant exposures and low birth weight: A distributed lag non-linear model

Open Access•Han Wu, Baofa Jiang et al.•ARTICLE•Environmental Research Letters•2017

When discussing the association between birth weight and air pollution, previous studies mainly focus on the maternal trimester-specific exposures during pregnancy, whereas the possible associations between birth weight and weekly-specific exposures have been largely neglected. We conducted a nested 1:4 matched case-control study in Jinan, China to examine the weekly-specific associations during pregnancy between maternal fine particulate matter …

  • Infectious Diseases and Tropical Cyclones in Southeast China

Open Access•Jietao Zheng, Weixiao Han et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2017

Southeast China is frequently hit by tropical cyclones (TCs) with significant economic and health burdens each year. However, there is a lack of understanding of what infectious diseases could be affected by tropical cyclones. This study aimed to examine the impacts of tropical cyclones on notifiable infectious diseases in southeast China. Disease data between 2005 and 2011 from four coastal provinces in southeast China, including Guangdong, Hain…

  • The Effects of Floods on the Incidence of Bacillary Dysentery in Baise (Guangxi Province, China) from 2004 to 2012

Open Access•Xuena Liu, Zhidong Liu et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2017

Research shows potential effects of floods on intestinal infections. Baise, a city in Guangxi Province (China) had experienced several floods between 2004 and 2012 due to heavy and constant precipitation. This study aimed to examine the relationship between floods and the incidence of bacillary dysentery in Baise. A mixed generalized additive model and Spearman correlation were applied to analyze the relationship between monthly incidence of baci…

  • Suicidal Ideation, Resilience, and Healthcare Implications for Newly Diagnosed HIV-Positive Men Who Have Sex with Men in China: A Qualitative Study

  • Major Natural Disasters in China, 1985–2014: Occurrence and Damages

Open Access•Weixiao Han, Chen Liang et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2016

This study aimed to describe the characteristics of natural disasters and associated losses from 1985 to 2014. The Mann-Kendall method was used to detect any long-term trends and abrupt changes. Hotspot analysis was conducted to detect the spatial clusters of disasters. We found an increasing trend in the occurrence of integrated natural disasters ( tau = 0.594 , p ), particularly for floods ( tau = 0.507, p tau = 0.365, p = 0.009) and storms ( t…

  • A Cross-Sectional Study of Heat Wave-Related Knowledge, Attitude, and Practice among the Public in the Licheng District of Jinan City, China

Open Access•Jing Li, Xin Xu et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2016

Knowledge, attitude, and practice (KAP) are three key components for reducing the adverse health impacts of heat waves. However, research in eastern China regarding this is scarce. The present study aimed to evaluate the heat wave-related KAP of a population in Licheng in northeast China. This cross-sectional study included 2241 participants. Data regarding demographic characteristics, KAP, and heat illnesses were collected using a structured que…

  • Impacts of Tropical Cyclones and Accompanying Precipitation on Infectious Diarrhea in Cyclone Landing Areas of Zhejiang Province, China

Open Access•Zhengyi Deng, Huanmiao Xun et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2015

Both typhoons and tropical storms could contribute to an increase in risk of bacillary dysentery and other infectious diarrhea in Zhejiang. Tropical cyclone precipitation may also be a risk factor for these diseases when it reaches or is above 25 mm and 50 mm, respectively. Public health preventive and intervention measures should consider the adverse health impacts from tropical cyclones

  • Bias in Self-Reported Condom Use: Association Between Over-Reported Condom Use and Syphilis in a Three-Site Study in China

Open Access•Hongjie Liu, Donald E Morisky et al.•ARTICLE•AIDS and Behavior•2015

  • Impacts of floods on dysentery in Xinxiang city, China, during 2004–2010: A time-series Poisson analysis

Open Access•Wei Ni, Guoyong Ding et al.•ARTICLE•Global Health Action•2014

BACKGROUND: Xinxiang, a city in Henan Province, suffered from frequent floods due to persistent and heavy precipitation from 2004 to 2010. OBJECTIVES: We focused on dysentery disease consequences of different degrees of floods and examined the association between fl…

  • Typology of older female sex workers and sexual risk for HIV infection in China: A qualitative study

Chun Hao, Hongjie Liu et al.•ARTICLE•Culture Health & Sexuality•2014

The HIV epidemic continues to develop among older adults in China, including older female sex workers. Yet, few studies have been conducted among this relatively hidden population. • Dual epidemics of syphilis and methamphetamine use among drug users in Shandong Province of China

Meizhen Liao, Dianmin Kang et al.•ARTICLE•AIDS Care•2013

We assessed the types of drugs, the prevalence of HIV, syphilis, and its correlates among Shandong's drug users in China. Two consecutive cross-sectional surveys in 2009 and 2010 provided demographics, types of drugs, sexual and drug-use behaviors, and HIV-related services. Of the 1320 unique, eligible participants, 81.1% were male, two-thirds <35 years of age, 13.0% non-Shandong residents; in the past year, majority (96.4%) reported ever using m…
