Open Access•A K Lund, Anna Lund et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Cultural…•2026

This article brings cultural sociology, civil sphere theory, and critical theory into dialogue to examine the empirical-cum-political stakes of education in multicultural societies. Using a mixed-methods approach, it analyzes school cultures in Finland, Scotland, and Sweden, focusing on how the symbolic and interactional life of schools extends beyond academic performance. Open Access•Nataša Pantić, Cecilia Gialdini et al.•ARTICLE•European Journal of Educational…•2025

Increase in immigration in Europe, including many migrants of school age, has highlighted the need to understand how best to support migrant students’ integration. Integration strategies vary significantly between countries, resulting in a complex mosaic of approaches that is difficult to analyze. The paper identifies four principles that one might expect to drive the destination choices of students from Scotland enrolling in English universities. Following a statistical analysis of student destination choices, it is argued that cross-border moves from Scotlan…

  • It was always the plan’: International study as ‘learning to migrate’

Open Access•A Findlay, Laura Prazeres et al.•ARTICLE•Area•2017•Cited by: 19•References: 21

International student mobility has mainly been theorised in terms of cultural capital accumulation and its prospective benefits on returning home following graduation. Yet, despite a growing body of work in this area, most research on post‐study mobility fails to recognise that the social forces that generate international student mobility also contribute to lifetime mobility plans. Moreover, these forces produce at least four types of post‐study…
