  • A New Approach to Forecasting the Probability of Recessions after the Covid‐19 Pandemic

Open Access•Máximo Camacho, Salvador Ramallo et al.•ARTICLE•Oxford Bulletin of Economics and…•2024

Standard recession forecasting based on economic indicators has become unsettled due to COVID‐19 pandemic's limited but influential data. This paper proposes a new non‐parametric approach to computing predictive probabilities of future recessions that is robust to influential observations and other data irregularities. The method simulates forecasts using past data histories embedded into a symbolic space. Then, the forecasts are converted into p…

  • Inference on Filtered and Smoothed Probabilities in Markov-Switching Autoregressive Models

Rocio Alvarez, Máximo Camacho et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Business and Economic…•2019

We derive a statistical theory that provides useful asymptotic approximations to the distributions of the single inferences of filtered and smoothed probabilities, derived from time series characterized by Markov-switching dynamics. We show that the uncertainty in these probabilities diminishes when the states are separated, the variance of the shocks is low, and the time series or the regimes are persistent. As empirical illustrations of our app…

  • Descentralización y democracia

    Open Access•Manuel Hijano, M Fernández Hijano et al.•ARTICLE•Historia Caribe•2019

The analysis of the evolution of teaching during the Democratic Transition in Spain has been made from a general perspective. However, these works do not address this issue from a regional or autonomic perspective, despite the fact that with the 1978 Constitution some of them –Catalonia, the Basque Country, Galicia, Andalusia, Valencia and the Canary Islands– have a broad and very significant repertoire of competences. From a comparative perspecti…

  • Detecting causal relationships between spatial processes

Open Access•Marcos Herrera, Marcos Herrera Gómez et al.•ARTICLE•Papers of the Regional Science…•2015•Cited by: 1•References: 1

  • Measuring Ethnic Clustering and Exposure with the Q Statistic

Antonio Páez, M Rosario Marín et al.•ARTICLE•Annals of the Association of…•2012•Cited by: 2•References: 56

The study of population patterns has animated a large body of urban social research over the years. An important part of this literature is concerned with the identification and measurement of segregation patterns. Recently, emphatic calls have been made to develop measures that are better able to capture the geography of population patterns. The objective of this article is to demonstrate the application of the Q statistic, developed for the ana…
