  • Color Stereoscopic Effect Cartography

    J Ronald Eyton•ARTICLE•Cartographica The International…•1990

A method for displaying autostereoscopic maps based on a phenomenon known as the color stereoscopic effect is presented. The technique involves coding the map in a spectral sequence of colors with the result that the short wavelength colors (blue, cyan, green) appear further from the eye (lower elevation) than the long wavelength colors (yellow, orange, red) which appear closer to the eye (higher elevation). A black raster contour overlay enhance…

  • Digital Elevation Model Perspective Plot Overlays

    J Ronald Eyton•ARTICLE•Annals of the Association of…•1986•References: 2

A method is presented for overlaying thematic data on a wireframe perspective plot of a digital elevation model (DEM). High-quality color separations were plotted on an electrostatic plotter using conventional pen controls to provide eight colors with different line densities and patterns for the overlay. The utility of the method was demonstrated by producing a plot of land use and land cover data registered to a DEM and by producing an annual a…

  • Complementary-Color, Two-Variable Maps

    J Ronald Eyton•ARTICLE•Annals of the Association of…•1984•Cited by: 4•References: 3

Complementary color coding is used in conjunction with nontraditional legend arrangements to create two-variable maps. The logic of a complementary color-coding scheme is simpler and easier for the map user to comprehend than the spectrally encoded scheme used to produce most of the two-variable maps published to date. In addition to the complementary color-coding scheme, an unclassed legend based on a line of best fit and a legend arrangement ba…
