  • A pilot study on the acceptability and safety of collaborative triage and treatment with traditional bonesetters for extremity fracture patients

    Open Access•Joost J Binnerts, Thom C C Hendriks et al.•ARTICLE•BMJ Global Health•2025

INTRODUCTION: Fracture patients in resource-limited settings frequently attend traditional bonesetters (TBSs), often resulting in non/malunion or infectious complications. Intersectoral collaboration between formal healthcare and TBSs has the potential to make this practice safer but has never been tested previously. This pilot study assesses the acceptability and safety of collaborative fracture management (CFM). METHODS: Within a pilot stepped-…

  • Broad Support Among Stakeholders for Collaboration Between Traditional Bonesetters and Formal Healthcare

    Open Access•Joost J Binnerts, Thom C C Hendriks et al.•ARTICLE•INQUIRY The Journal of Health…•2025

Extremity fractures are increasingly common in Sub-Saharan Africa. In many resource-limited settings, patients with fractures have historically sought out traditional bonesetters (TBSs) and continue to do so, in part due to the undercapacity of existing orthopedic facilities. This qualitative study investigates key stakeholder perspectives on intersectoral collaboration between the formal healthcare system and TBSs in treating extremity fractures…

    Open Access•Michael Edwards, Michael J Edwards•ARTICLE•Acta Poética•2013

  • Security Implications of a Worst-case Scenario of Climate Change in the South-west Pacific

    Michael Edwards, Michael J Edwards•ARTICLE•Australian Geographer•1999•Cited by: 6•References: 19

This paper examines the links between climate change and security in the island states of the South-west Pacific. A worst-case scenario of climate change is presented which suggests that land will be lost or rendered uninhabitable in all Pacific Island states as a result of climate-change impacts. Loss of land is the focus of this paper for two reasons. Firstly, land is interwoven in the lives of many Pacific Islanders; it provides economic, cult…

  • Notes on pseudo-Plutarch's Life of Antiphon

    Open Access•Michael Edwards, Michael J Edwards•ARTICLE•The Classical Quarterly•1998•Cited by: 2•References: 5

The Lives of the Ten Orators (), preserved in the manuscripts of Plutarch's Moralia (832b–852e) but almost universally acknowledged not to be the work of Plutarch himself, have been much maligned by modern scholars, and the information they provide has been treated with extreme caution, not to say disdain. My purpose here is to demonstrate that the first of these biographies, the Life of Antiphon (832b–834b), repays close study and, far from bein…
