  • Determinism and Asymmetry in General Relativity

Jb Manchak, Thomas Barrett et al.•ARTICLE•The British Journal for the…•2025•References: 29

This paper concerns the question of which collections of general relativistic spacetimes are deterministic relative to which definitions. We begin by considering a series of three definitions of increasing strength due to Belot (1995). The strongest of these definitions is particularly interesting for spacetime theories because it involves an asymmetry condition called ``rigidity'' that has been studied previously in a different context (Geroch 1…

  • A Hierarchy of Spacetime Symmetries

Jb Manchak, Thomas Barrett et al.•ARTICLE•The British Journal for the…•2023•Cited by: 1•References: 17

We present a hierarchy of symmetry conditions within the context of general relativity. The weakest condition captures a sense in which spacetime is free of symmetry "holes" of a certain type. All standard models of general relativity satisfy the condition but we show that violations can occur if the Hausdorff assumption is dropped. On the other extreme, the strongest condition of the hierarchy is satisfied whenever a model is completely devoid o…

  • Sistemas de salud mental en El Salvador, Guatemala y Nicaragua

Open Access•Jorge Rodríguez-Sosa, Jorge Jacinto Rodríguez et al.•ARTICLE•Revista Panamericana de Salud…•2007

The authors evaluated the mental health systems of El Salvador, Guatemala, and Nicaragua, using a group of select indicators. The World Health Organization Assessment Instrument for Mental Health Systems (WHO-AIMS) was used to collect data from the nations. The national mental health systems of Nicaragua, Guatemala, and El Salvador have serious limitations, especially in primary care, and a marked lack of qualified human resources. Budget allocat…

  • Ethnographic Approaches to Child Care Research

Open Access•M Buchbinder, Jeffrey Longhofer et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Early Childhood Research•2006•Cited by: 6•References: 21

This article presents the findings from a review of ethnographic approaches to child care research. Ethnographic research has enhanced researcher and practitioner understandings of the child care environment by providing entry into the child care center as an important site not only of development and education, but also of social reproduction and enculturation. The extant research is summarized by identifying four dominant perspectives for viewi…

  • Teaching The Middle Phase To Social Work Students

    Thomas J Barrett, Thomas Barrett•ARTICLE•Australian Social Work•1986•Cited by: 2

This paper describes an experiential model for teaching final year social work students how to deal with feeling issues in practice. It focuses on the middle phase of intervention primarily, using an outside person role playing a client in a classroom setting. The aim of the model is to enhance the students' ability in learning advanced empathic skills
