  • Vital Signs

Open Access•Melissa T Merrick, Dabney Ford et al.•ARTICLE•MMWR. Surveillance Summaries•2019

INTRODUCTION: Adverse childhood experiences, such as violence victimization, substance misuse in the household, or witnessing intimate partner violence, have been linked to leading causes of adult morbidity and mortality. Therefore, reducing adverse childhood experiences is critical to avoiding multiple negative health and socioeconomic outcomes in adulthood. METHODS: Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System data were collected from 25 states t…

    Open Access•Kameron J Sheats, Shalon M Irving et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Preventive…•2018

INTRODUCTION: The purpose of this study is to characterize violence-related disparities experienced by young blacks in the U.S. Reducing violence experienced by blacks, particularly youth, who are at substantially higher risk, is essential to improving the health of blacks in the U.S. METHODS: Data from four independent data sets for youth and adults were analyzed to examine rates of homicide, assault, injury from a physical fight, bullying victi…

  • Adverse childhood experiences and life opportunities

Open Access•Marilyn Metzler, Melissa T Merrick et al.•ARTICLE•Children and Youth Services Review•2017•Citada por: 80•Referencias: 53

Substantial research shows that early adversity, including child abuse and neglect, is associated with diminished health across the life course and across generations. Less well understood is the relationship between early adversity and adult socioeconomic status, including education, employment, and income. Collectively, these outcomes provide an indication of overall life opportunity. We analyzed data from 10 states and the District of Columbia…

  • Examination of the factorial structure of adverse childhood experiences and recommendations for three subscale scores.

Dabney Ford, DEREK C FORD et al.•ARTICLE•Psychology of Violence•2014

OBJECTIVE: The purpose of the current investigation is to assess and validate the factor structure of the Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System's (BRFSS) Adverse Childhood Experience (ACE) module. METHOD: ACE data available from the 2009 BRFSS survey were fit using exploratory factor analysis (EFA) to estimate an initial factorial structure. The exploratory solution was then validated using confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) with data from t…

  • Regional Analysis of Self‐Reported Personality Disorder Criteria

Open Access•Eric Turkheimer, Dabney Ford et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Personality•2008

Building on the theoretical work of Louis Guttman, we propose that the core problem facing research into the multidimensional structure of the personality disorders is not the identification of factorial simple structure but rather detailed characterization of the multivariate configuration of the diagnostic criteria. Dimensions rotated to orthogonal or oblique simple structure are but one way out of many to characterize a multivariate map, and t…

  • Karst Hydrogeology and Geomorphology

Dabney Ford, Derek Ford et al.•BOOK•Karst Hydrogeology and…•2007

Originally published in 1989, Karst Geomorphology and Hydrology became the leading textbook on karst studies. This new textbook has been substantially revised and updated. The first half of the book is a systematic presentation of the dissolution kinetics, chemical equilibria and physical flow laws relating to karst environments. It includes details of the many environmental factors that complicate their chemical evolution, with a critique of mea…

  • Continental Oxygen Isotopic Record of the Last 170,000 Years in Jerusalem

Open Access•Amos Frumkin, Dabney Ford et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary Research•1999

A long radiometrically dated oxygen isotopic record of continental climatic variations since the penultimate glaciation was obtained from a stalagmite deposited in a sealed cave in Jerusalem. This record shows that speleothems have the potential of assigning dates to long- and short-term climatic events, with possible refining of Milankovitch tuning of ice and marine records which themselves are not datable. Short-term (∼1000-yr) events are very …

  • A Holocene millennial-scale climatic cycle from a speleothem in Nahal Qanah Cave, Israel

    Open Access•Amos Frumkin, Israel Carmi et al.•ARTICLE•The Holocene•1999•Citada por: 4•Referencias: 5

Nahal Qanah Cave, located in the east Mediterranean region, has been inhabited by humans during several periods of the Holocene. These well-dated cultures are used here to establish the age of a speleothem growing over archaeological remains. d 18 O and d 13 C from a stalagmite through the last 6000 years display a 1000–2000-year cycle. Depleted d 18 O and d 13 C value correlate well with high Dead Sea levels and increased arboreal pollen, sugges…

  • Body Size Variability and a Sangamonian Extinction Model for Amblyrhiza, a West Indian Megafaunal Rodent

    Open Access•Donald A McFarlane, R D E Macphee et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary Research•1998

The megafaunal rodent Amblyrhiza inundata from Anguilla and St. Martin is often cited in lists of late Quaternary human-induced extinctions, but its date of disappearance has never been established. Here, we present a suite of uranium-series disequilibrium dates from three independent Amblyrhiza sites in Anguilla, all of which cluster in marine isotope Stage 5. Thus, there is no indication that Amblyrhiza survived into the late Holocene, when isl…

  • Pre-Wisconsinan Mammals from Jamaica and Models of Late Quaternary Extinction in the Greater Antilles

    Open Access•R D E Macphee, Dabney Ford et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary Research•1989

The vertebrate fauna recovered from indurated conglomerates at Wallingford Roadside Cave (central Jamaica) is shown to be in excess of 100,000 yr old according to uranium series and electron spin resonance dating. The Wallingford local fauna is therefore pre-Wisconsinan in age, and Roadside Cave is now the oldest radiometrically dated locality in the West Indies containing identifiable species of land mammals. In the absence of a good radiometric…

  • Late Pleistocene Sea Level History of Bermuda

    Open Access•Russell S Harmon, H P Schwarcz et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary Research•1978

The timing of eustatic sea level fluctuations over the vertical range + 15 to −11 m has been deduced from 230 Th/ 234 U dating of Bermudan corals and speleothems. On this tectonically stable carbonate island, interglacial periods are characterized by platform submergence, development of patch reefs, and the deposition of littoral and eolian carbonates, whereas glacial periods are times of platform emergence, carbonate diagenesis, soil development…

  • Late Pleistocene Paleoclimates of North America as Inferred from Stable Isotope Studies of Speleothems

    Open Access•Russell S Harmon, Philip R Thompson et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary Research•1978

Some speleothems (CaCO 3 cave deposits) can be demonstrated to have been formed in oxygen isotopic equilibrium with their parent seepage waters and thus a record of relative fluctuations in depositional temperature can be obtained from the δ 18 O variations in successive growth layers of such deposits. These temperature fluctuations reflect variations in the average annual air temperature at the surface above the cave, and therefore permit infere…

    Open Access•Dabney Ford, DEREK C FORD•ARTICLE•Canadian Geographies /…•1961•Referencias: 3
