  • Avkolonisering av akademia fra et samisk perspektiv

    Open Access•A Dankertsen•ARTICLE•Slagmark - Tidsskrift for…•2025

    Ingvill B Åberg, A Dankertsen et al.•ARTICLE•Nytt Norsk Tidsskrift•2024

  • Complexity and interdependence in local mineral extraction planning: The Nasa Mountain Quartz Case in Northern Norway

Open Access•Olof Stjernström, Tanja Ellingsen et al.•ARTICLE•The Extractive Industries and…•2024•References: 20

The Green Transition demands mineral extraction. The importance for Europe to gain independence from China within this area is also high on the political agenda, which has resulted in a renewal of interest in mineral-extraction in the Nordic countries, including Norway. Despite the increasing demand at the global, European and national level, the planning process itself though takes place at the local level, raising issues of complexities, contra…

  • “It’s more like it doesn’t even exist”: Stories of hauntings as a way of resisting colonial elimination of Sámi presence

    Open Access•A Dankertsen•ARTICLE•AlterNative An International…•2022

In this article, I explore how haunting as a theoretical concept is useful for analyzing the emotional effects of colonization and forced assimilation of the Sámi, the Indigenous people in Norway, Sweden, Finland and Russia. While some still find it difficult to talk about what it means for them to be Sámi today, telling stories about hauntings is paradoxically something that they do more easily. Through theories concerning affect, emotions and h…

  • Whiteness Isn’t about Skin Color.” Challenges to Analyzing Racial Practices in a Norwegian Context

Open Access•A Dankertsen, Tone Gunn Stene Kristiansen•ARTICLE•Societies•2021•Cited by: 8•References: 26

While being Norwegian is often associated with being white, the absence of a discourse on race makes it difficult to analyze racialization scientifically. It is sometimes argued that critical race theory is developed within an American context and that it is not culturally relevant in a Norwegian context. We argue that while this might be true in some cases, critical race theory might nevertheless give new insights into how racial practices and c…

  • If we want to have a good future, we need to do something about it”. Youth, security and imagined horizons in the intercultural Arctic Norway

    Open Access•A Dankertsen, Elisabeth Pettersen et al.•ARTICLE•Acta Borealia•2021•References: 4

Security is an issue often raised when discussing the Arctic, a region where international relations and tensions between the great powers of the past and present often are taken-for-granted as the traditional scope of dialog. We have chosen to focus on youth in Arctic Norway, their perceived notion of security in their everyday lives, and how this influences their perceived possibilities for the future. We combine human security and ontological …

  • I Felt So White: Sámi Racialization, Indigeneity, and Shades of Whiteness

A Dankertsen, Dankertsen et al.•ARTICLE•Native American and Indigenous…•2019•Cited by: 2

This article explores how whiteness and race are understated, but still relevant, categories of identification in Sápmi today. I use autoethnography in combination with qualitative data as a strategy to challenge the silence around whiteness and critically investigate its status as unmarked majority position. With concepts from feminist, post-colonial, and anti-racist theory, I discuss how the social construction, categorization, and embodied pra…
