Analysis of the integration of medical and nursing care and its association with depression and anxiety among medical staff in the Jinhua area
The integration of medical and nursing care in Jinhua appears to improve not only the efficiency of elderly services but also supports the mental health of medical staff. However, psychological risks remain, highlighting the need for integrated care models to embed ongoing mental health support mechanisms for healthcare professionals
Illness perceptions of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) and intention of performing clinical diagnostic examination for OSA in Chinese older adults
High proportions of older people did not indicate conditional/unconditional BICDE-OSA, possibly resulting in low detection and treatment rates. As OSA was prevalent in the study population and the unconditional group showed a much higher prevalence of BICDE-OSA than the conditional group, the prevalence of BICID-OSA might increase if the high-risk people are made aware of their risk. Interventions modifying illness representations may be consider…
Perceived social support and self-stigma as factors of Covid-19 booster vaccination behavior and intention via cognitive coping and emotion regulation among people infected with Covid-19 in Hong Kong
Perceived social support was associated with BI-BV, and was mediated via self-stigma, active coping, and serially self-stigma then active coping but not emotion maladaptation. The data supported the stress cognitive coping model in explaining the association between perceived social support and BI-BV. Interventions promoting BI-BV may consider modifying the observed significant factors. Future longitudinal studies are warranted to confirm the fin…
Multi-dimensional factors of behavioral intention of Covid-19 booster vaccination among people having contracted Covid-19—a 7-city study conducted during the last national major outbreak in China
The BI-BCV prevalence was lower than ideal and warrants health promotion. We found that some cognitions (IR constructs of illness coherence, treatment control, and perceived consequences of COVID-19 and perceived inevitability of infection), behavior (social distancing), psychosocial factors (depression and social support), but not emotional states related to COVID-19, were potential determinants of BI-BCV. Future longitudinal studies are warrant…
Factors of Psychoactive Substance Use Behaviors and Intention Among Social Workers’ Adolescent Case-Work Clients in Hong Kong
Based on Social Cognitive Theory (SCT), this study investigated the factors of psychoactive substance use in terms of current use (past 30 days), lifetime use, and behavioral intention (next 12 months) in Hong Kong adolescent case-clients of social workers from July 2021 to June 2022. The prevalence of current/lifetime psychoactive substance use and behavioral intention to use psychoactive substances was 7.6%/20.9% and 8.6%, respectively. The SCT…
Level and factors of support for the Living with the Virus policy in a Chinese adult general population
Background: This study investigated the public's support for the Living with the Virus (LWV) policy, its associated factors, and related mediations at a time when more countries were considering adopting the LWV policy amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods: A random, population-based telephone survey was conducted among 500 Chinese adults in Hong Kong during March/April 2022. Results: 39.6% of the participants were supportive/strongly supportive of…

The Vicious Cycle between Loneliness and Problematic Smartphone Use among Adolescents
Illness representation of Covid-19 affected public’s support and anticipated panic regarding the living with the virus policy
Background: There is a global trend for countries to adopt the Living with the Virus (LWV) policy regarding COVID-19. Little is known about the public's supportiveness and emotional responses (e.g., anticipated panic) related to this policy. Such responses may be associated with illness representations of COVID-19 (i.e., how people think and feel about COVID-19). This novel topic was investigated in this study to facilitate policy-making and heal…
Prevalence and factors of Covid-19 vaccine refusal among solid cancer patients in China
Introduction: It is essential to protect cancer patients from contracting COVID-19 through vaccination. A majority of cancer patients are recommended by international health authorities to take up the vaccines. COVID-19 vaccine refusal among cancer patients during the pandemic period is under-researched. This study investigated factors of vaccine refusal based on the Health Belief Model (HBM). Methods: = 1,115). Multinomial logistic regression an…

Time to Lift up Covid-19 Restrictions? Public Support towards Living with the Virus Policy and Associated Factors among Hong Kong General Public
The fifth wave of the COVID-19 pandemic has caused an unprecedented toll on Hong Kong. As more countries are starting to lift COVID-19 restrictions, it would be important to understand the public attitudes towards lifting COVID-19 restrictions and to identify its associated factors. Validation of the Expected Social Acceptance via Internet Gaming Scale (Esaigs) Among Adolescent Internet Gamers in China
Psychometric Properties of the Abbreviated Version of the Dual School Climate and School Identification Measure–Student (SCASIM-St15) among Adolescents in China
School climate and school identification are two distinct yet closely interrelated components of school environment; both are associated with adolescents' multiple health behavioral changes. The 15-item Abbreviated version of the Dual School Climate and School Identification Measure-Student (SCASIM-St15) and its 5-factor model simultaneously and separately assess these two constructs. This study validated the Chinese version of SCASIM-St15 among …
The associations between psychological needs, health‐related quality of life and subjective well‐being among Chinese older people
The present study investigated the associations between the three psychological needs (autonomy, competence and relatedness) derived from the Self-determination Theory and well-being [health-related quality of life (HRQOL) and subjective well-being (SWB)] among older people in Hong Kong SAR, China. A cross-sectional study was conducted from May to August 2018 in Hong Kong. A total of 230 participants aged 60-year-old or above were recruited from …
Negative cognitive and psychological correlates of mandatory quarantine during the initial Covid-19 outbreak in China
Quarantine plays a key role in controlling the pandemic of 2019 coronavirus disease (COVID-19). This study investigated (a) the associations between mandatory quarantine status and negative cognitions (perceived discrimination because of COVID-19 and perceived risk of COVID-19 infection)/mental health status (emotional distress because of COVID-19, probable depression, and self-harm/suicidal ideation), (b) the associations between the negative co…
Validation of the Chinese Version of the Revised Internet Gaming Cognition Scale among Adolescents in China
Maladaptive gaming cognitions are important determinants of Internet gaming disorder (IGD). Based on a systematic review, a 4-factor Internet gaming cognition scale (IGCS) was previously developed and cross-cultural validation of IGCS is warranted. The present study assesses the validation of the IGCS and its revised version, the Chinese version of Revised IGCS (C-RIGCS), among adolescents in China. Altogether, 755 students were recruited from ju…
Concentration, Source, and Total Health Risks of Cadmium in Multiple Media in Densely Populated Areas, China
Cadmium (Cd) is a non-essential and harmful element to humans. Cadmium contamination is a serious issue for human health, especially in densely populated agroecology areas. In this study, the investigation of an agroecology area was conducted to gain insight into the relationship between Cd in wheat and soil and then evaluate the Cd total risk for human health. The soil samples and their matching wheat samples, underground water samples, and atmo…
