Training in law and psychology
Although the domain of law and psychology is a burgeoning and popular field of study, there has never been a concerted effort to evaluate current training models or to develop newer, more effective ones. Forty-eight invited participants attended a national conference held at Villanova Law School to remedy this deficiency. Relation of Cognitive Functioning to Daily Living Skills in a Geriatric Population
A modified version of the Community Competence Scale was administered along with the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale--Revised (WAIS--R) to 40 geriatric patients with suspected dementia. Scores on the Competence Scale, a measure of functional daily living skills, were correlated .72 with Full Scale IQs and .77 with Verbal IQs and moderately correlated (.55) with Performance IQs. A number of significant correlations were found between WAIS--R sub…

Importation versus inmate socialization as the primary determinant of perceptions of halfway house residents
This investigation focused on a theoretical issue addressing the question as to whether the Inmate Socialization Theory, Importation Theory, or some combination thereof could most effectively account for the perceptions and behaviors of residents at three community-based correctional facilities. The most parsimonious interpretation of the data requires both theories to most completely account for the findings. Although lacking statistical signifi…
Conflict about release
Among institutionalized delinquent males, low scores on a questionnaire index of desire for release were related significantly to less stable family relationships (parent absent from home, parental abuse/rejection), more pessimistic evaluations of home by subjects, and a greater likelihood of previous institutionalization and of truancy/runaway offenses. The results suggest the importance of extrainstitutional variables for understanding the deli…
