Assessment of alcohol use with multidimensional concepts and measures
Diagnosis of Alcoholism
The diversity of patients who enter an alcoholism treatment center is revealed in a factor analysis of questionnaire responses. Two relatively independent patterns of alcohol use and five other problem areas, independent of alcoholism, are described
On the Internal Structure of the Mmpi
This article contains 2 principal parts: (1) a detailed criticism of the MMPI and the methods used to construct it; and (2) a report on studies of the factor structure in the behavior represented by responses to MMPI items. The criticisms are intended to banish the MMPI in its present form from the domain of psychological assessments
Dimensions of Treatment Outcome; A Factor-Analytic Study of Alcoholics' Responses to a Follow-up Questionnaire
A factor analysis of the responses from a 3-month follow-up questionnaire indicated that evaluation of treatment outcome can be measured by a broad dimension of posttreatment adjustment and by seven relatively independent dimensions of abstinence, interviewer evaluation of improvement, job and social adjustment, self-claimed improvement of the drinking problem, decrease in sociopathy, intrapersonal adjustment and social involvement
Dimensions of Perception of Background and Current Situation of Alcoholic Patients
Factor analysis of responses by 2032 alcoholics to a social-history questionnaire disclosed 7 factors relating to social and personal adjustment during childhood and 8 factors relating to current adjustment and problems. Further analysis revealed 2 broad distinctions, between childhood delinquency-anxiety symptoms and parental loss and illness, and between current social and intrapersonal maladjustment
Alcoholism Symptom Patterns of Men and Women; A Comparative Study
