  • Covid‐19 community assessment hubs in Ireland

Open Access•Eilish Mcauliffe, Sophie Mulcahy Symmon et al.•ARTICLE•Health Expectations•2023

BACKGROUND: Critical care bed capacity per capita in Ireland is among the lowest in Europe. The COVID-19 pandemic has put additional strain on an over-stretched healthcare system. COVID-19 community assessment hubs (CAHs) were established to prevent unnecessary admission to acute hospitals and to reduce infection spread. OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to assess the effectiveness and acceptability of CAHs and identify how the service might b…

  • Preliminary Validation of the Rey 15-Item Test and Reliable Digit Span in Native Japanese Samples

    Open Access•Joseph J Ryan, Takahiro Yamaguchi et al.•ARTICLE•Psychological Reports•2018

The Rey 15-Item Test and reliable digit span were evaluated in Japan. Participants were controls ( n = 15), healthy volunteers instructed to simulate memory impairment ( n = 12; 5 of 17 volunteers did not comply with instructions and were dropped), healthy elderly ( n = 12), and cognitively disabled nursing home residents ( n = 8). On the 15-Item Test, controls and elderly performed similarly and were combined. Nursing home residents could not co…

  • Associations Between Climate and Iq in the United States of America 1

    Joseph J Ryan, Jared M Bartels et al.•ARTICLE•Psychological Reports•2010

Relations between average temperature of each of the 48 contiguous states and estimates of state IQ were inspected. Additional state variables were controlled in the correlational analyses, namely gross state product, percent Hispanic, Black, and Asian in the state population, and the pupil-to-teacher ratio for each state. A significant correlation between average temperature and state IQ was found (r = -.70, p<.001). Possible explanations are di…

  • Substitution of Supplementary Subtests for Core Subtests on Composite Reliability of Wais–IV Indexes

    Open Access•Joseph J Ryan, Laura A Glass•ARTICLE•Psychological Reports•2010

The effects of replacing core subtests with supplementary subtests on composite-score reliabilities were evaluated for the WAIS-IV Indexes. Composite score reliabilities and SEMs (i.e., confidence intervals around obtained scores) are provided for the 13 unique Index scores calculated following the subtest substitution guidelines of Wechsler in 2008. In all instances, unique Index composite-score reliabilities were comparable to their respective …

  • Perceptions of Psychology as a Science among University Students

    Open Access•Jared M Bartels, Ryan M Hinds et al.•ARTICLE•Psychological Reports•2009

The goal was to examine the relationship between the number of psychology courses students have taken and their perceptions of psychology as a science. Additionally, differences in perceptions of psychology among psychology, education, and natural science majors were examined. Results indicated that students who had taken four or more psychology courses had more favorable perceptions of psychology as a science compared to those who had taken no c…

  • Internal Consistency Reliability of the Wisc–IV among Primary School Students

    Open Access•Joseph J Ryan, Laura A Glass et al.•ARTICLE•Psychological Reports•2009

Internal consistency reliabilities of the WISC-IV subtest and index scores were estimated for a sample of 76 primary school students from a small Midwestern community. Means for age and Full Scale IQ were 8.2 yr. (SD = 23) and 110.5 (SD = 11.7), respectively. Internal consistency reliabilities were compared with those for the WISC-IV standardization sample of 200. The range of reliabilities for the subtests was from .76 for Picture Concepts to .9…

  • Personality in Domestic Cats

    Open Access•Christina M Lee, Joseph J Ryan et al.•ARTICLE•Psychological Reports•2007

Personality ratings of 196 cats were made by their owners using a 5-point Likert scale anchored by 1: not at all and 5: a great deal with 12 items: timid, friendly, curious, sociable, obedient, clever, protective, active, independent, aggressive, bad-tempered, and emotional. A principal components analysis with varimax rotation identified three intepretable components. Component I had high loadings by active, clever, curious, and sociable. Compon…

  • Substituing Supplementary Subtests for Core Subtests on Reliability of Wisc–IV Indexes and Full Scale IQ

    Open Access•Joseph J Ryan, Laura A Glass•ARTICLE•Psychological Reports•2006

The effects of replacing core subtests with supplementary subtests on composite score reliabilities were evaluated for the WISC-IV Indexes and Full Scale IQ. When Wechsler's guidelines are followed, i.e., only one substitution for each Index; no more than two substitutions from different Indexes when assessing the Full Scale IQ, summary score reliabilities remain high, and measurement error, as defined by confidence intervals around obtained scor…

  • Reliabilities of the Wais–III for Discrepancy Scores

    Open Access•KRISTINA I BROWN, Joseph J Ryan•ARTICLE•Psychological Reports•2004

Internal consistency reliabilities for WAIS-III IQ, Index, and subtest discrepancy scores are provided for 100 men in a treatment program for substance abuse disorders. There were 63 Euro-Americans and 37 African Americans. Means for age, education, and Full Scale IQ were 46.1 yr. (SD=8.8), 12.7 yr. (SD=1.5), and 93.8 (SD=14.0), respectively. Reliabilities ranged from .34 to .86. Compared with the WAIS-III standardization sample, discrepancy scor…

  • Preliminary Suggested Readings in Forensic Psychology

    Joseph J Ryan•ARTICLE•Psychological Reports•2003

ABBP Diplomates in forensic psychology were surveyed to identify lists of "suggested readings" for their field. The return rate was 28% of 162 total Diplomates. Four of 117 books and five of 56 journals met the inclusion criterion of being endorsed by ≥25% of the respondents. The present survey provides a preliminary reading guide for undergraduate and graduate students

    Open Access•Joseph J Ryan, Summer D Schnakenberg et al.•ARTICLE•Psychological Reports•2001

This study utilized 104 college students to assess the possibility that a performance increment would result on the WAIS-III Digit Symbol Coding subtest scores if instructions were modified to include the time allowed for completion. Compared with the standard instructions, this modification did not significantly change mean scores

  • Demographic Variables and Microcog Performance

    Open Access•Shane J Lopez, Joseph J Ryan et al.•ARTICLE•Psychological Reports•2001

The associations of demographic variables with cognitive performance, as measured by the MicroCog ability domain scores, were assessed with 222 substance abusers who were patients in a VA medical center. Analysis indicated that age was negatively related to all five outcomes scores, and education was positively related to measures assessing Attention/Mental Control and Reasoning/Calculation. These findings are consistent with past theoretical and…

  • Glucose Levels are Not Associated with Common Features-Derived Prototype Memory Abstractions

    Open Access•Naomi Baldwin, Patrick A Ament et al.•ARTICLE•Psychological Reports•2000

Elevated glucose levels are associated with increased recall on declarative memory tasks. No previous studies have examined such a relationship using a common features-derived prototype memory abstraction task. 20 participants volunteered, 10 each in an experimental group who were given 40 g of glucose to drink and a control group given an artificially sweetened beverage after fasting. Analysis indicated that common features-derived prototype mem…
