Differences in the Marriage Role Expectations of College Students from Intact and Divorced Families
The differences in marriage role expectations between college students of divorced and intact families were investigated using the Marriage Role Expectation Inventory (MREI). The MREI (Dunn and DeBonis, 1979) measures desires for traditional versus companionship style of marital relationships. It was hypothesized that those participants from divorced families would expect a more companionship oriented marriage role while those from intact familie…
Psychometric Properties of the Internal Control Index
The Internal Control Index of Duttweiler was administered to 85 college students and scores were analyzed to study the psychometric properties of the instrument. Descriptive statistics were similar to those reported for other college samples. An internal consistency (coefficient alpha) of .82 was found. An item analysis supported the use of a single total score as a psychometrically sound measure. Further use of the Internal Control Index across …
Correlations among Scales of the Beck Depression Inventory and the Profile of Mood States
The revised Beck Depression Inventory and the Profile of Mood States were administered to 104 men. Scores on the Beck Depression Inventory correlated significantly with all six Profile scales, including .75 with Depression-Dejection and -.53 with Vigor-Activity
Reliability of the Marriage Role Expectation Inventory
Reliability of the Marriage Role Expectation Inventory
The Marriage Role Expectation Inventory was administered to 100 undergraduate students to study reliabilities of total score and subscale scores. The inventory possessed unusually high internal consistency (.95); individual subscales possessed adequate to low reliabilities
Psychometric Properties of King's Rodent Emotionality Rating Scale
King's (1958) Rodent Emotionality Rating Scale has been used extensively as a measure of the effects of such experimental procedures as septal lesions. It has also been suggested that the King scale is appropriate for a variety of applications in laboratory activities for introductory physiological psychology and for studies with normal animals. Given this extent of potential use, a series of studies were undertaken to investigate the psychometri…
Correlation between Scores on the Beck Depression Inventory and the Zung Self-Rating Depression Scale
The Beck Depression Inventory and the Zung Self-rating Depression Scale were administered to a stratified sample of 78 college students. The two measures of depression were significantly correlated .54. In addition, Beck scores were influenced by an interaction of year and college variables, and Zung scores were different for males and females. It is concluded that these two scales offer somewhat different measures of depression

The “Lost Postcard” Technique
Since Milgram's initial use of the letter technique (Milgrarn, Mann, & Hatter, 1965), a number of researchers have this to be a useful tool for prediction of social behaviors and attitudes (Milgram, 1977). The rates of return for these letters. when by unknowing participants, are differentially affected by the addresses on the outside of the envelopes. Also, a sizable proportion of the letters are opened prior to being returned, presumably to use…
A Table for the Determination of Experimentwise Error Rate (Alpha) From Independent Comparisons
When a series of statistical tests are employed in the same experiment, the researcher is obligated to consider the error rate (probability of making a type I error) in terms of the experiment, not merely in terms of each comparison. A table is provided for the rapid determination of experimentwise alpha level when a number of independent statistical tests are employed in the same experiment. Suggested applications and the rationale for this proc…
PF Correlates of Locus of Control
PF Correlates of Sensation-Seeking
Correlations between the Form C of the Sixteen Personality Factor Questionnaire (16 PF) and Form IV of Zuckerman's Sensation-seeking Scale are presented for 200 undergraduate college students. Previous findings tended to be supported and the analysis was expanded to include four second-stratum 16 PF traits and six 16 PF criterion scores. General sensation-seeking was negatively related to psychoticism and neuroticism and positively related to ext…
