  • Coping behavior and locus of control in children 1

Open Access•Fred Rothbaum, John A Wolfer et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Personality•1979

A bstract Several investigators report a distinction between inward (withdrawn, somaticizing, fearful) behavior and outward (antisocial, hostile, aggressive) behavior. The present study was designed to clarify the relationship between type of coping behavior and locus of control (i.e., the attribution of causality to internal vs. external factors) for children aged 4 to 12 years. Two locus of control (LOC) instruments were administered—the Nowick…

  • Changes in Dogmatism Scores of High and Low Dogmatics as a Function of Instructions

    Open Access•John A Wolfer•ARTICLE•Psychological Reports•1967

In Exp. I, 184 undergraduates were retested on Rokeach's Dogmatism Scale 10 wk. after the first administration. Half of the Ss were retested under the usual instructions and half were told what the D Scale measures. The informative-instructions group did not decrease more in dogmatism scores than the regular-instructions group. High-D Ss decreased under both instructions and low-D Ss did not change. In Exp. II, 144 undergraduates were retested on…

  • Comparative Reliability of the Dogmatism Scale with 2 and 6 Scale Points

    Open Access•Donald R Shupe, John A Wolfer•ARTICLE•Psychological Reports•1966

Previous research has shown that the variance in Rokeach's Dogmatism Scale is primarily associated with the direction of the response (agree vs disagree) resulting in a high correlation between the original 6-point weighted scoring and a simple count of the number of agree responses. These findings suggest that the Dogmatism Scale could be cast into a 2-point (agree-disagree) format. A 2-point Dogmatism Scale, with instructions to Ss to agree or …
