Accuracy in amicus curiae briefs and in commentaries
In this reply to commentaries, we argue that amicus briefs should identify when findings are based on simulation studies, clarify that we did not propose that American Psychological Association amicus briefs must be perfect, and refute notions that our coding was opaque or that following legal (i.e., Bluebook ) style absolves psychologists from following American Psychological Association standards. We agree with the commentary by Cobb et al. (20…
Citation accuracy in American Psychological Association amicus curiae briefs
For over 60 years, the American Psychological Association (APA) has submitted amicus curiae (friend of the court) briefs with the aim of informing the courts about relevant scientific findings that may otherwise be absent from, or misrepresented in, the trial records of court cases. To achieve this aim, it is important that the summarized information accurately reflects the relevant scientific literature. The present study investigated the accura…
Generalizability of Psychopathy Network Analysis Findings to Scores Assigned to Individuals Convicted of a Sex Offense
Despite being well-researched, the conceptualization of psychopathy incites much debate within the field. Results from network analysis can inform these debates by graphically and quantitatively depicting the core characteristics of the construct of psychopathy. Existing network studies with Psychopathy Checklist—Revised (PCL-R) scores suggest the affective traits are most central to the construct of psychopathy, but more studies are needed. The …
Community Service Outcomes in Justice-Involved Youth
Traditional mandated community service (CS) typically consists of picking up trash or performing manual labor, distanced from the community. Some juvenile justice programs have begun to implement restorative community service (RCS) programs that enable youth to complete meaningful CS projects in a shame-free manner alongside community members. This study compared RCS with a standard community service (SCS) program in two counties in Washington St…
A Network Approach to Understanding Narcissistic Grandiosity via the Narcissistic Admiration and Rivalry Questionnaire and the Narcissistic Personality Inventory
The narcissistic admiration and rivalry concept (NARC) model of grandiose narcissism posits that striving for uniqueness, grandiose fantasies, and charmingness define narcissistic admiration, whereas striving for supremacy, devaluation, and aggressiveness define narcissistic rivalry. Given these complex interrelationships, we explored the structure of grandiose narcissism using the Narcissistic Admiration and Rivalry Questionnaire (NARQ) and Narc…

Confirmatory Validation Of The Factor Structure And Reliability Of The Sexual Risk Survey In A Large Multiuniversity Sample Of U.S. Students
Objectives: The Sexual Risk Survey (SRS) is a measure of sexual risk behavior designed to comprehensively assess sexual risk taking among college students and has been found to have good psychometric properties. However, the SRS was created and validated within a sample of U.S. Midwestern university students and the factor structure and reliability may differ in other samples. The current study expands on existing research by examining the factor…
The Pursuit of Happiness, Stress and Temporomandibular Disorders
Mismanaging the pursuit of happiness causes negative psychological effects such as stress and disappointment. The resultant stress often manifests itself as psychological and physical health problems. We explore the problems of measuring happiness according to materialistic wealth and demonstrate that misinterpreting happiness can lead to a stress inducing pursuit. The happiness that human beings pursue is often material-based hedonism whereas eu…
Interpersonal Perceptions of Narcissism in an At‐Risk Adolescent Sample
This study utilized Kenny's social relations model ( SRM ) to explore the interpersonal correlates of narcissism in an adolescent sample from a voluntary residential program. Participants were forty‐seven 16–18‐year‐olds (24 males, 23 females) attending a 22‐week residential program. Participants completed a self‐report measure of narcissism and rated one another on narcissism‐related traits and social status variables. Individuals with high leve…
Psychopathic, not psychopath
Although psychopathy is frequently regarded as qualitatively distinct from other conditions, relatively little research has examined whether psychopaths represent a distinct class of individuals. Using a sample of 876 prison inmates and court-ordered substance abuse patients who were administered the Psychopathy Checklist-Revised (R. D. Hare, 2003), the authors examined the latent structure of psychopathy using several taxometric procedures devel…

Anorexia nervosa reconceptualized from a psychosocial transactional perspective
Anorexia nervosa is conceptualized as a number of very different instrumental actions that occur within particular family contexts. Six psychosocial transactional patterns--negativistic, attention centering, distracting, childlike, attractive, and self-punishing--are identified. This psychosocial transactional perspective is proposed as an alternative to approaches that focus on the "psychopathology" of young female anorexics

Natural Termination”
This paper is a re-examination of the rule of date setting in termination. It reviews the literature and presents an analytic case which was terminated in what the patient called a "natural" manner, i.e., without the setting of a date. Some ideas about the nature of the rules used in organizing analysis are discussed
