‘Paying it forward’: School partners’ perceptions of ‘authentic partnership’ for co-enacting initial teacher education
Shifting power relations in innovative learning environments: Implications for initial teacher education and practicum
Internationally, a dearth of literature exists on how preservice teachers (PSTs) should be prepared to engage in Innovative Learning Environments (ILE) while on practicum. These environments progress open physical designs, and particular pedagogies and discourses favouring student agency and teacher collaboration. Differing conceptions of power coalesce in these new designs. This case study research in Aotearoa|New Zealand illustrates a set of po…
Rethinking student agency through ‘material agency’ in the context of learning in nature
Student agency theorising traditionally positions individuals as sovereign and under-theorises the role non-human material elements play in enacting agency. We recognise the role of the material but to honour our research participants and context we adopt an asymmetrical view of the agency of the material non-human in relation to the human in co-shaping agency. We apply this view to students learning in nature, and data from a developmental evalu…

Heavy Drinking among Women Receiving Intensive Motivational Interviewing: 6-Month Outcomes
Compared to men, women with alcohol use disorders experience more severe consequences related to drinking. Intensive Motivational Interviewing (IMI) is a new 9-session version of Motivational Interviewing (MI) designed for women with alcohol use disorders. The current study reports outcomes from a randomized clinical trial of IMI compared to a single session of MI. Data were collected at baseline, 2-month, and 6-month follow-up. In addition to a …
Innovative learning environments and new materialism: A conjunctural analysis of pedagogic spaces
An Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development research priority, innovative learning environments (ILEs) have been translated into policy and practice in 25 countries around the world. In Aotearoa/New Zealand, learning spaces are being reconceptualised in relation to this policy work by school leaders who are confronted by an impetus to lead pedagogic change. The article contributes a conjunctural analysis of the milieu around the rede…
The art of queueing up at Disneyland
This paper traces the development of Disneyland's queue space design from Opening Day in 1955 to the end of the twentieth century. The theme park has earned renown for its imaginative theming and detail, yet little attention was initially paid to the reality of waiting to experience attractions. Switchback queues, outdoors, and exposed to the weather, with little to no obvious design related to their respective attraction left guests dissatisfied…

Control Beliefs of Adults in Three Domains: A New Assessment of Perceived Control
Preliminary analyses (N = 205; age range 30 to 80 years) were performed with a new measure of perceived control to assess control beliefs in specific domains, examine cross-sectionally groups' age differences in perceived control and compare control beliefs for the various domains within age groups. This measure was hypothesized to yield greater conceptual clarity of the assessment of perceived control than other instruments by measuring specific…
Aged Heterogeneity: Fact or Fiction? The Fate of Diversity in Gerontological Research
Studies examining age-related changes typically report findings as age-based generalizations that neglect the phenomenon of variability in gerontological research. This paper examines the degree of attention given in 185 studies to individual differences and the empirical patterns of variability reported in those studies that present measures of dispersion. Measures of dispersion were reported in 43% of the gerontological studies reviewed and in …
