  • Not Just the Utility of Mathematics but Its Beauty in the Context of STEM PBL

Open Access•Ali Biçer, Hyunyi Jung et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of Science…•2026

  • The Relationship Between Mathematical Creativity and Mathematical Giftedness

Open Access•Scott A Chamberlin, Scott Chamberlin et al.•ARTICLE•Gifted Child Today•2026

This article highlights a comparison of mathematical creativity and mathematical giftedness, two often conflated yet distinct, constructs. The purpose is to provide clarity so that scholars in the fields of mathematical creativity and mathematical giftedness have a discussion in which similarities and differences between the two constructs exist. In identifying similarities and delineating differences, researchers will be at an advantage in targe…

  • Exploring the Transferability of STEM PBL Instructional Principles from Higher Education to K-12 Classrooms

Open Access•Ali Biçer, Tugce Aldemir et al.•ARTICLE•Education Sciences•2025

The first objective of this study was to explore which principles of STEM PBL instruction pre-service teachers found most beneficial in enhancing their understanding of mathematics- and science-related concepts. The second objective was to identify the instructional practices from STEM PBL that pre-service teachers intended to incorporate into their future teaching practices. We conducted a descriptive qualitative study, analyzing data from inter…

  • Revealing student processes in a mathematics classroom: An in-depth instrumental case study

Open Access•Ali Biçer, Fay Quiroz et al.•ARTICLE•Learning Culture and Social…•2025

  • Exploring emergent AI-TPACK competencies in a two-week AI literacy module for preservice teachers

Open Access•Tugce Aldemir, Ali Biçer et al.•ARTICLE•Teaching and Teacher Education•2025•References: 6

This exploratory case study examined a two-week, ethics-integrated AI literacy module for preservice teachers ( n = 29) in a required technology-integration course. Five standards-aligned activities were mapped to AI-TPACK (AI-TK, AI-TPK, AI-TCK, AI-CK, ethics) and AI-literacy dimensions (know, use, evaluate, ethical awareness, create). Analysis of reflections, tool-audit rubrics, lesson plans, and surveys revealed five patterns: (1) rapid gains …

  • Understanding anxiety‐related problems of children with ASD in school settings

Open Access•Celal Perihan, Ali Biçer et al.•ARTICLE•Psychology in the Schools•2024

The primary purpose of this current study was to identify knowledge of special education and mental health professionals in anxiety‐related problems of children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) in four Different Categories: Separation Anxiety (SA), Uncertainty (U), Performance Anxiety (PA), and anxiety Arousal (AA). Three hundred eighteen participants across the United States (199 special education teachers, 97 school counselors, and 22 school…

  • Actualizing Change after Experiencing Significant Mathematics PD: Hearing from Teachers of Color about Their Practice and Mathematical Identities

    Open Access•Richard Kitchen, Monica Martinez-Archuleta et al.•ARTICLE•Education Sciences•2021

While it is well-documented that students of color and students from low-income communities have often been denied access to a challenging education in mathematics in the United States, less is known about how teachers of color have overcome their deprived educational backgrounds to become teachers of mathematics who implement inquiry-based instructional methods as a means to improve their students’ learning and mathematical identities. In this a…

  • The effects of function‐based communication intervention for a student with emotional disturbance in a general education setting

Open Access•Celal Perihan, Ali Biçer•ARTICLE•Journal of Research in Special…•2021

Research has shown that most children with emotional disturbance (ED) are struggling to use communication skills and they may tend to use inappropriate behaviours as a form of communication to disclose their needs. A function‐based communication intervention might be an effective approach to decrease inappropriate behaviours of children with ED. The purpose of this single‐case multiple baseline reversal design (ABAB) study was to examine the effe…

  • A Meta‐Analysis of the Relationship between Mathematics Achievement and Creativity

Open Access•Ali Biçer, Scott A Chamberlin et al.•ARTICLE•The Journal of Creative Behavior•2021

In the current investigation, research studies ( n = 30) conducted from 1965 to 2018 were synthesized to examine the mathematics achievement–creativity relationship and the range of factors that could have moderated this relationship. The meta‐analysis included sample size of 11,418 and revealed that there was an overall moderate and statistically significant ( r = 0.47, p r = 0.53, p
