Classifying and Contextualizing Edits in Variants with Coleto
This paper introduces Coleto, an automatic collation tool for the comparison of variant texts in English, German, or French, which separates edits from variant texts so that textual changes can be classified and contextualized. This paper examines one explicit and many potential references to James Joyce in Thomas Pynchon's Gravity's Rainbow, and explores evidence that a minor Pynchon character may be read as an amalgamated representation of Joyce and his fictions. First, comparisons and contrasts between Joyce and Pynchon are surveyed.
