Records reveal the vast historical extent of European oyster reef ecosystems
Anthropogenic activities have impacted marine ecosystems at extraordinary scales. Biogenic reef ecosystems built by the European flat oyster ( Ostrea edulis ) typically declined before scientific monitoring.
