  • The Geology of the Middle Cam Valley, Cambridgeshire, UK

    Open Access•Steve Boreham, Karolina Leszczyńska•ARTICLE•Quaternary•2019

This study offers a new understanding of the stratigraphy and context of the Pleistocene (including Elsterian and Weichselian) and Holocene deposits of the Middle Cam valley, Cambridgeshire, United Kingdom, and provides a unique and detailed view of the sediment architecture of these valley-fill and interfluve sediments. The new insights into the geology of the area, including dating, pollen analyses, and sediment architecture, are presented with…

  • Physical and Chemical Analyses of Sediments from around Star Carr as Indicators of Preservation

Open Access•Steve Boreham, Julie Boreham et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Wetland Archaeology•2011•Cited by: 6•References: 2

This paper presents results of a project focused on investigating the deterioration of organic sediments in the area adjacent to the Mesolithic site of Star Carr. Physical and geochemical analyses of sediment sequences from 15 boreholes have been used to assess preservation status and potential of the deposits. The results indicate that severe acidification as a result of chemical oxidation of sulphide to sulphate has occurred at various location…

  • Geochemical indicators of preservation status and site deterioration at Star Carr

Open Access•Steve Boreham, Chantal Conneller et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Archaeological Science•2011•Cited by: 12•References: 2

  • The Environmental and Social Context of the Isleham Hoard

    Open Access•Tim Malim, Steve Boreham et al.•ARTICLE•The Antiquaries Journal•2010•Cited by: 1•References: 25

This paper describes the rediscovery of the exact location for the Isleham hoard ( tl 63197253) and presents the results of related fieldwork; it briefly reviews the metallurgical significance of the hoard, and discusses its local environmental and social context, as well as the distribution of founder's hoards within the Fenland region. The hoard was found to have been placed in a pit dug into a filled-in Bronze Age boundary ditch, next to a rec…

  • Total Archaeology’ and Model Landscapes

Open Access•C Evans, Chris Evans et al.•ARTICLE•Proceedings of the Prehistoric…•2006•Cited by: 6•References: 19

This paper presents the results of fieldwork and archive ‘excavation’ relating to the causewayed enclosure at Great Wilbraham near Cambridge. Initiated in 1975 by David Clarke and John Alexander, the project effectively ceased after one further season following Clarke's untimely death. Combining original data with new results from geophysical and environmental surveys, a reappraisal of the site and its landscape context is offered. ‘The archive p…

  • A simple and effective methodology for sampling modern pollen rain in tropical environments

    Open Access•William D Gosling, Francis E Mayle et al.•ARTICLE•The Holocene•2003•Cited by: 3•References: 1

To gain a better insight into the nature of palaeovegetation change in tropical ecosystems, more information needs to be gleaned from the limited number of fossil pollen records that exist. To achieve this, a detailed understanding of modern tropical ecosystems and the pollen they produce is required. To facilitate this, a practicable and effective mechanism for sampling modern pollen rain from the tropics is required. This paper presents a modif…
