Independent Local Radio in the West Midlands
This essay presents the comparative analysis of two Independent Local Radio (ILR) stations in the West Midlands during the 1970s. ILR was a public, community-based, radio service funded by the sale of spot advertising, and the success or the failure of an ILR station depended on the outlook and experience of its management team. Iron Currency Bars in Britain
This study of iron currency bars began as a note, prepared at the request of the late Professor Sir Ian Richmond, for inclusion in his publication of the British Museum excavations at Hod Hill. It was intended to accompany a similar account of the Celtic coins found at Hod Hill, for which he had previously asked. Hod Hill is the only site where coins and bars have been found in comparable numbers. However, as one thing led to another, the origina…

By the time the coins ceased nearly a century later, a great many of these representational types had been issued. The purpose of this paper is to try to show from enlarged reproductions to what extent these coins provide a visual illustration of lif…
I.— The Belgic Dynasties of Britain and their Coins
The history of Belgic Britain has usually been reconstructed around the names of the few known kings or chieftains. Apart from two inscriptions and some casual references in classical authors, our only information about them comes from the coinage which bears their names. The pioneer work on this subject was done by Sir John Evans in the last century, and his book is still the chief authority, but many of his conclusions now require modification.…
