  • The Excavation of Stone Circles near Penmaenmawr North Wales

    Open Access•W E Griffiths, Wyn Griffiths•ARTICLE•Proceedings of the Prehistoric…•1960•Cited by: 4

The moorland south of Penmaenmawr in Caernarvonshire, extending from the great outcrop of Penmaenmawr-Graig Lwyd rock, well-known for its group of stone-axe factories, as far south as Foel Lwyd and Tal-y-fan, and averaging 1,200–1,400 feet in height above O.D., bears a rich concentration of prehistoric monuments. The best known of these is probably the stone circle known as the Druids' Circle, but nearby are many other circles and cairns (fig. 1)…

    Open Access•W E Griffiths, Wyn Griffiths•ARTICLE•The Antiquaries Journal•1959•Cited by: 3

The ‘enclosed hut-groups’, or native homesteads consisting of round or rectangular buildings within an enclosure, of N.W. Wales are well known and have been discussed by Ralegh Radford as well as by Hemp and myself. Caernarvonshire contains many examples of these farmsteads, but few have been excavated and the problems of their origin, date, and development are still numerous and perplexing. Howel Williams excavated two sites of this type near Rh…

  • The Typology & Origins of Beakers in Wales

    Open Access•W E Griffiths, Wyn Griffiths•ARTICLE•Proceedings of the Prehistoric…•1958

The recent publication by Dr H. N. Savory of a corpus of beakers found in Wales enables us, for the first time as far as that part of Britain is concerned, to draw conclusions about the beaker cultures based on a considerable body of evidence from an area forming a geographical unit within the Highland Zone. In his discussion of this, Savory has raised general questions of considerable interest with regard to the origins and development of the Br…
